WNBA Legend Lisa Leslie Had One Word for Angel Reese on Sunday

The Chicago Sky have now won two straight games and sit at 2-4 in the early part of the 2025 WNBA season. They defeated the Dallas Wings in consecutive contests, with Sunday’s victory coming on the road by a score of 94-83.

2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese is averaging 10.0 points and 12.3 rebounds to lead the Sky. She already has three double-doubles this season and became the fastest player in league history to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds.

On Sunday, she posted a series of pictures on Instagram featuring one of her pregame outfits from the recent two-game series against the Wings.

Reese limited the comments on her post, so only a select few could reply. WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who Reese has grown close with in recent years, was one of the commenters.

She had a simple one-word message for Reese that showed support for the young star.

“Yep🔥😂,” Leslie commented.

Leslie played all 12 of her WNBA seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, and she won two championships. She also earned three MVP awards, as well as 12 All-WNBA honorees and eight All-Star selections.

Angel Reese Sends Clear Message to Wings Coach Without Using Words

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky got their second win of the season on Saturday night, beating the Paige Bueckers-less Dallas Wings, 94-83.

Ariel Atkins led the way for Chicago with 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while tallying four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Reese, for her part, had a near double-double with 14 points and nine boards to go along with two assists and three steals.

Reese also had a highlight reel-worthy play early in the game when she pulled off an epic assist to Elizabeth Williams. The All-Star forward saw a gap between two defenders and used it to send the ball to her teammate for an easy two.

However, one of the coolest moments from the showdown didn’t happen during the game but rather after it. Following Chicago’s win, Reese was spotted sharing a moment with Wings assistant coach Nola Henry.

Henry, who was hired by the Wings during the past offseason, was seen sharing a hug with Reese. The two were also all smiles as they posed for a photo before separating and walking away.

On her Instagram Stories, Reese shared the photo they took during their exchange. While she didn’t write any message, she did put several kinds of heart emojis, making it clear how much she loves and appreciates Henry.

It’s no surprise why Angel Reese and Nola Henry share such a strong bond, though. For those not in the know, Henry was Reese’s coach in Unrivaled — the 3-on-3 basketball league founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.

Reese played for the Rose BC team coached by Henry. Under her guidance, the Sky star won Defensive Player of the Year in the 3-on-3 league’s inaugural season. The Rose also went on to win the Unrivaled championship.

Angel Reese Is So Pumped About Her ‘Fire’ New Signature Reebok Logo

Following a legendary college career and impressive rookie season in the WNBA, Angel Reese signed a contract extension with Reebok, which is set to launch a signature shoe for the Chicago Sky star in 2026. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see what the first edition of Reese’s kicks look like, but on Wednesday, the brand unveiled its new Reese logo.

To say that Reese is pumped for how it turned out is an understatement.

After first using a pair of emoji to call the new ‘AR’ logo “cold,” she penned a longer message to X.

Cold and fire… that’s high praise.

The logo is very cool, to be sure. Reebok designed a stylistic combination of Reese’s initials, combining the tops of the two letters to form a subtle halo.

Reese first signed with Reebok in October 2023, becoming the face of the company’s women’s basketball efforts. She’s on the shortlist of WNBA stars with signature shoe deals, along with Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson and Sydney Colson.

Saturday wasn’t a good day for Chicago Sky stud Angel Reese, at least individually. She shot just 4-of-13 from the field and had four turnovers against the Dallas Wings, and at one point, she got into some extracurriculars with NaLyssa Smith of the Wings, which led to both being given technical fouls.

But the Sky managed to win by a final score of 94-83, which improved their season record to 2-4. After the game ended, Reese shared a precious moment with Nola Henry, a Wings assistant coach who used to coach her on Rose BC, a team in the Unrivaled League, a women’s three-on-three basketball league.

Fans on X reacted to the embrace.

“Unrivaled was a masterclass 🌹🌹,” one fan wrote.

“I think she should be the Dallas coach,” another fan wrote.

“Awesome clip!” another user wrote.

“And we love to see it! 🌹,” a fourth fan wrote.

“Unrivaled is the gift that keeps on giving 🥰” a fifth user wrote.

“Put the roses in the chat. 🌹🌹,” another user wrote.

Rose BC won the inaugural Unrivaled League title in March with notable players such as Reese, Lexie Hull of the Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics’ Brittney Sykes.

The Sky went 13-27 last year, just three seasons after winning the WNBA championship. Reese, who was the runner-up in the Rookie of the Year balloting in 2024, shot just 39.1% from the field, and the Sky were both 11th in offensive rating and points per game.

Reese hasn’t exactly been shooting well to start her second pro season, but she has been a beast on the boards.

Meanwhile, guard Ariel Atkins, who was acquired in a trade back in February, has provided enough of an offensive spark to allow Chicago to get by in the early days of this season.

Atkins led everyone in Saturday’s game with 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, and she also had half of Chicago’s eight steals.

The Chicago Sky won their second game in a row on Saturday, pushing them to a 2-4 record in the 2025 WNBA season. The 94-83 victory was also their first road win of the year.

Head coach Tyler Marsh has now won consecutive games for the first time in his young career, and the Sky are now tied with the Indiana Fever for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Ariel Atkins had another stellar game, scoring 26 points for Chicago. Courtney Vandersloot had a well-rounded performance as well, scoring 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven assists.

2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese also contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists. She was also productive on defense, adding three steals in the win as well.

After the game, veteran post player Elizabeth Williams spoke to the media. She talked about Reese’s growing ability as a passer and how it has helped the Sky win their last two contests.

Angel Reese

“She’s done a good job of having vision, sometimes being a relief for (Courtney Vander)sloot bringing the ball up because she gets pressured a lot,” Williams said. “She’s done a good job of just seeing where people are open and making good decisions.”

Reese averaged just 1.9 assists per game during her All-Rookie campaign in 2024, but that number has shot up to 2.8 per contest in 2025. She had five assists in the team’s win over the Wings on Thursday, and she added another two on Saturday.

Chicago’s next game will be on June 7, which is the first matchup of the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. The Sky will take on the 2-4 Indiana Fever, who the team lost to 93 to 58 on opening day.

Angel Reese is currently playing in her second season with the Chicago Sky, having already established herself as a league star.

During her rookie year with the Sky, Reese was named a WNBA All-Star. She quickly found individual success in Chicago, but the Sky have struggled to fully put the puzzle pieces together.

Last season, the Sky posted a 13-27 record.

While the Sky attempted to revamp their roster and coaching staff, entering the season with first-year head coach Tyler Marsh, they have struggled yet again.

Amid a three-game losing streak to start the season, Angel Reese has taken to social media.

While many are worried about the Sky’s play on the court, Reese made sure to highlight another major point in her life: fashion.

Reese posted a photo of herself with a Chanel-inspired outfit, which she wore to a Sky game.

“Me & chanel>>>>> @chanelofficial,” Reese said.

Upon the release of the post, some fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on Angel Reese’s look.

“Yepp😍😍,” said one fan.

“Literally 😍,” said another fan.

“And that’s a fact!” mentioned one fan.

“Sooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” commented one fan.

“Y E S M A ‘ A M 💛🩵🖤,” said one fan.

“Yesss! ❤️@chanelofficial Always eats🔥🔥🔥🔥,” said WNBA legend Lisa Leslie.

In the photos from Angel Reese, she was wearing an oversized yellow puffer jacket with a glossy finish, casually open at the front to reveal a navy and white ribbed crop top that fits snugly and features a striped pattern across the chest.

Reese also wore wide-leg denim jeans and a metallic chain-link belt layered over a standard denim waistband, with a gold Chanel logo charm hanging from the left side.

The Chicago Sky have yet to earn their first win of the season, entering the year with newly hired head coach Tyler Marsh.

Chicago is 0-3 on the season, having suffered losses to the Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and the Los Angeles Sparks.

Amid the tough start to the season for Chicago, they have been monitoring the health of guard Moriah Jefferson.

Jefferson has yet to play this season, nursing a leg injury. While she’s been sidelined for the first three games, the Sky have announced a new status scenario for Jefferson.

According to Underdog WNBA, Jefferson is listed as questionable for the team’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury.

Chicago will be facing off against the Mercury on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.

Moriah Jefferson is entering her first season with the Chicago Sky. Before joining Angel Reese and Tyler Marsh, Jefferson played with the Connecticut Sun, Phoenix Mercury, Minnesota Lynx, Dallas Wings, Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm.

When Moriah Jefferson eventually enters the lineup, she will be playing alongside one of the most well-known athletes in the league, Angel Reese.

Reese is playing in her second season with the Chicago Sky. Last season in Chicago, Reese was a WNBA All-Star while finishing the year at No. 2 in Rookie of the Year voting, behind Caitlin Clark.

Robert Griffin III makes Angel Reese blush again after her reaction to Caitlin Clark and brings Chennedy Carter into the picture

Caitlin Clark‘s dazzling triple-double during the Indiana Fever‘s 93-58 blowout win over the Chicago Sky should have been the defining moment of the WNBA‘s season opener. But as has often been the case with Clark and her chief rival Angel Reese, the spotlight shifted away from the basketball and onto controversy. T

his time, it stemmed from a third-quarter flagrant foul committed by Clark, and an emotionally charged reaction from Reese that instantly became a viral talking point.

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III wasn’t shy about weighing in. During a recent episode of his podcast “Outta Pocket with RGIII,” he dissected the altercation and argued that Reese’s visible outburst confirmed what he’s long believed: that the Chicago forward harbors genuine animosity toward Caitlin Clark.

“You guys remember last year when Angel Reese celebrated Chennedy Carter getting that flagrant foul on the hip check against Caitlin Clark? You remember that?” Griffin asked. “On the sideline, just, yeah, baby, get her, you get her. Who celebrates like that for a flagrant foul on another player if they don’t dislike that player?”

Griffin says Reese’s bias toward Clark is clear

Griffin’s argument hinged on what he described as inconsistent behavior from Reese depending on who’s involved.

He referenced a moment from the 2024 season when Reese was violently fouled by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun – an incident that led to Thomas receiving a flagrant two and an automatic ejection. In that case, Reese remained relatively calm.

“So, where was this type of reaction last year, when Angel Reese got chokeslammed by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun?” Griffin continued. “Y’all remember that? She got fouled so hard, they kicked Alyssa Thomas out the game with a flagrant two foul. What did Angel Reese do? Nothing. She didn’t get up and try to swing on her.”

According to Griffin, Reese’s comparatively tame response to a more dangerous hit – contrasted with her escalation of what he called a “routine” foul by Clark – highlights what he views as personal disdain toward the Indiana star.

After securing a win in each of their first two preseason games, Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky couldn’t finish with an undefeated record, falling to 2-1.

On Saturday, Reese and the Sky suffered a 92-87 loss to Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx in their 2025 WNBA preseason finale.

With the regular season less than a week away, the Sky needed to release some players to cut their roster down to the WNBA maximum of 12.

In order to get to this number, Chicago was forced to cut three players on Sunday, including forward Morgan Bertsch, guard Alex Wilson and center Jessika Carter, per Sky reporter Karli Bell.

“The Chicago Sky have waived Morgan Bertsch, Alex Wilson and Jessika Carter,” Bell wrote on X. “This means that rookie draft pick Maddy Westbeld has made the 2025 roster.”

The Chicago Sky selected Hailey Van Lith with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, reuniting Van Lith with her former LSU women’s basketball teammate, Angel Reese. During a recent interview with WGN News, Van Lith revealed one part of Reese’s game that she believes gets overlooked.

“Me and Angel picked up right where we left off,” Van Lith said. “We had, like, a team dinner last night and we were cracking jokes all dinner. She’s great energy. I think one thing about Angel that a lot of people don’t give her credit for is… she does have, like, a selfless leader mindset. Like, she has went out of her way to make sure that my mindset is right, that my energy is right. That I’m feeling comfortable.

“So yeah, it was great to get out there with Angel again… All the vets have been, like, super encouraging to me.”

Hailey Van Lith excited to reunite with Angel Reese

Van Lith endured a down season in her one year at LSU. She had previously found success at Louisville before transferring to LSU, but her time with the Tigers did not go according to plan. Van Lith then transferred to TCU for her final college basketball campaign, and that decision ended up working out.

The guard enjoyed a bounce back campaign, cementing herself as a legitimate first-round pick candidate in the draft. Sure enough, the Sky selected Van Lith No. 11 overall.

Hailey Van Lith and Angel Reese

Van Lith believes that Chicago presents her with a tremendous opportunity to find success. The fit has potential without question, as she can learn from veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot while also feeling comfortable playing alongside Angel Reese.

“It’s a perfect environment for me to be successful so hopefully I can make an impact and be a part of a great program,” Van Lith added.

Angel Reese’s underrated leadership prowess

As Van Lith mentioned, Reese is a leader. Van Lith does not believe Reese always receives enough credit for her leadership prowess. It is clear that the rookie respects Reese. In just her second year in the league, Angel has earned respect around the WNBA.

It remains to be seen if Hailey Van Lith will start in her rookie season. Even if she does initially come off the bench, Van Lith could possibly earn a starting role as the ’25 campaign moves forward. Van Lith’s first year in the league will present her with a great opportunity to learn from established players such as Angel Reese and Courtney Vandersloot.
