Derek Chisora has suggested three possible opponents for his next and likely final career fight.

After Saturday’s victory over Otto Wallin, Chisora canvased the crowd as to whether they wanted to see him fight Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight titlist, Oleksandr Usyk, the unified WBC, WBA and WBO champion, or Anthony Joshua.

Joshua remains a major star in British boxing but he has not managed to reclaim a world title since his first loss to Usyk. He lost a 2022 rematch to Usyk and Dubois, now the IBF champion, knocked him out last September inside five rounds.

Chisora has always been on good terms with Joshua. They both boxed for the same amateur club, Finchley ABC, and now Chisora’s career is handled by Joshua’s management company.

Matt Macklin spoke about Tyson Fury’s retirement announcement and the potential disappointment if he never faces Anthony Joshua in the ring

After his win over Wallin as he looks at imminent retirement, Chisora said: “I need something big. I think I’ve earned something big.”

He’s not convinced that will be Joshua, who he expects to fight Tyson Fury – despite the 36-year-old retiring after his second defeat to Usyk.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury

“Who knows? Right now AJ is healing himself after the defeat from Daniel Dubois. He’s not ready yet. When he’s ready he’ll come back and I think he’ll come back – not to fight me but to fight the ‘Gypsy King’,” Chisora said post-fight. “I’ll let the public decide [who next]. I’ll let you guys decide.”

Boxing Francis Ngannou, an MMA heavyweight champion in both UFC and PFL, in a crossover event has no great appeal for Chisora.

“I don’t think Francis Ngannou will come back to boxing after the AJ loss,” he said. “I want to fight a fighter.”

Then he joked: “I might fight Jake Paul, who knows?”

Chisora has now had 49 professional contests, including fights with Oleksandr Usyk, Vitali Klitschko and a trilogy with Tyson Fury.

A 50th and probably final fight is likely to take place overseas. “I think I’m getting old,” Chisora said after beating Wallin.

“It was very emotional for me,” he continued. “When I arrived I said to myself before I left my hotel, ‘I’m not going to cry’.

“It was very emotional for me and very sad because I love this game so much. So I just started crying. I was crying like a kid.”

Former heavyweight contender Derek Chisora believes Anthony Joshua is not ready to return to action following his knockout loss to IBF champion Daniel Dubois last September, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Speaking after his victory over Otto Wallin on Saturday, Chisora, who shares management with Joshua through 258 MGT, suggested the British-Nigerian needs more time to recover.

“Who knows? Right now AJ is healing himself after the defeat from Daniel Dubois. He’s not ready yet. When he’s ready he’ll come back and I think he’ll come back – not to fight me but to fight the ‘Gypsy King’,” Chisora said post-fight.

However, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has contradicted these claims, insisting the former two-time heavyweight champion is prepared to begin training camp with six potential opponents in consideration.

“I spoke to AJ yesterday, for the first time in, I dunno a couple of weeks. And he’s ready to start camp, pretty much. We’re going to chat, probably next week, particularly after February 22 and we’re going to choose the next opponent,” Hearn told iFL TV.

The promoter also dismissed reports that Joshua had already signed to face either Martin Bakole or Deontay Wilder in his comeback fight.

“Loads of people were sending it to me, including the media saying, ‘is Bakole-AJ signed?’ And I’m like, ‘Signed? We haven’t even had one conversation about it.’ Then I saw Wilder against AJ was signed for June 7. Not even had one conversation about it.”

Joshua, who has earned over $200m in his career, including $75m from fights in 2024 alone, still has one fight remaining on his lucrative Riyadh Season contract.

Among the potential opponents for his return is the winner of the IBF title fight between champion Dubois and Joseph Parker, scheduled for February 22 in Saudi Arabia, as well as the victor of the WBC interim title clash between Zhilei Zhang and Agit Kabayel on the same night.

Anthony Joshua

“Parker-Dubois winner, Zhang-Kabayel winner, I think could be an option,” Hearn added. “Fury and Dubois are still obviously the two AJ most wants to fight. But he doesn’t have a problem fighting any of them. Honestly, he couldn’t care less. He’ll fight anyone. He’s always been that way.”

Boxing journalist Gareth A Davis recently revealed that Joshua’s team had not engaged in any conversations regarding a potential bout with Bakole, despite claims from the Congolese boxer’s promoter, Ben-Shalom, that the deal was “done” for a fight in Congo.

“I’m hearing from Anthony Joshua’s side there hasn’t even been a conversation. Maybe this is Bakole and his team trying to speak the fight into reality,” Davis told BoxNation.

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith recently told BetFred that Joshua is expected to return to the ring in the summer, while his team continues to explore various options for his comeback fight.

Roy Jones Jr Predicts Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua After Both Losing To Usyk: “He Has The Edge”

Roy Jones Jr has given an insight into who he believes wins between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

The British heavyweight rivals are still being linked with one another despite Fury announcing his retirement from boxing at the beginning of January.

After ‘The Gypsy King’ suffered a second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, it was speculated that the 36-year-old would finally meet ‘AJ’ in what would no doubt be the biggest fight in British boxing.

Joshua – who has also lost twice to Usyk – is now preparing to make his return to the ring after he was defeated by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September.

The 35-year-old was floored three times before ‘Dynamite’ knocked him out in devastating fashion in the fifth round of their bout at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking to iFL TV, Jones was asked to predict who he believes would come out on top if a fight between Fury and Joshua ever happens.

“I like both guys, so it’s hard for me to really say, but because of their past experiences and what I’ve seen, I would probably give Fury the edge.

Looking at his two fights with Usyk, and Joshua’s two fights with Usyk, I think he [Fury] made a little better adjustments fighting Usyk than Joshua did, so I would probably give him [Fury] the edge.”

Despite his retirement announcement, it remains unclear whether ‘The Gypsy King’ intends to finally walk away from the sport or can be tempted back by the ‘AJ’ bout.

An all-British showdown has been many years in the making, but fans may be left wondering what would have happened if the pair had finally locked horns.

Daniel Dubois Does Not Believe Joseph Parker Will Be A Tougher Fight Than Anthony Joshua
Daniel Dubois knows that he has a real fight on his hands.
Becoming a world champion meant everything to him. But instead of milking said title with a tenuous defense, Dubois decided to take on Joseph Parker.
Only a few weeks remain before they officially get it on but Dubois believes he’s more than ready. Part of that stems from his preparation. But, in large part, the run he’s been on has him feeling as confident as ever.
Although wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic pushed him up The Ring’s rankings, grabbing a victory against Anthony Joshua left many believing that he’s the real deal.
Expected to lose, Dubois made it look incredibly easy against the former unified champ, stopping him in the fifth round. Parker, at least on paper, might be a stiffer test according to some but Dubois simply doesn’t believe that’s true.
“No,” said Dubois to Carl Frampton during a face-to-face with Parker when asked if Parker will be a tougher fight than Joshua. “I don’t think so.”
Dubois (22-1, 21 KOs) isn’t the only heavyweight riding an incredible wave at the moment. Parker has been scorching hot lately. Since suffering his first knockout loss against Joe Joyce in 2022, the former heavyweight champ reeled off five wins in a row.
Putting together five consecutive victories was impressive enough but doing so at the expense of Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang has turned heads.
With everything clicking, Parker is convinced that he’s never been better. The goal for him is obvious. Beat Dubois convincingly and attempt to become an undisputed champion by knocking off Ring, WBA, WBC, and WBO champion, Oleksandr Usyk.
Everything that Parker has accomplished is cute but that doesn’t make him dangerous according to Parker. Has his run been impressive? It has. But will it help him on February 22nd? Dubois doesn’t believe so.
“He’s been on form but I think I’ll go through him.”
Chisora on Anthony Joshua: If The Public Really Wants It, We Will Get It On
Heavyweight contender Derek Chisora is open to possibility of a crossroads showdown with former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua.
On Saturday night in Manchester, Chisora scored two knockdowns before winning a twelve round unanimous decision over fellow veteran Otto Wallin.
Joshua has been out of the ring since suffering a brutal fifth round knockout loss at the hands of IBF world champion Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium in London.
The next ring appearance, which will be Chisora’s 50th bout, could very well be the final contest of his pro career.
Saturday’s contest was billed as potentially the boxer’s final bout on UK soil.
Anthony Joshua
“I am not going to lie to you, it will be very, very emotional. Before I left the hotel for this one, I promised myself that I wouldn’t cry. But suddenly I was walking through the corridors and I saw my photos and just started balling,” Chisora said.
“It’s going to be very emotional, and sad, because I love this game so much. I just started crying, like a little kid. F—ing hell! I just love the game, the ups and downs, even the cuts and bruises that I have right now. I love it all.”
Chisora has a lot of respect for Joshua. He supported and assisted Joshua when the London star was coming up in the amateur ranks and eventually captured Olympic gold.
“Anthony Joshua has done unbelievably well for boxing in the United Kingdom. Olympic gold medal, world titles, stadium fights .  AJ was the one who took boxing to Saudi Arabia and opened up all the doors for everyone else to follow him and make money,” Chisora said.
“I have watched him sell out stadiums in Cardiff and London and Saudi, so he always has to be given respect. But if the public really wants to see us get that fight on, we will get it on.”

Anthony Joshua dealt major blow in pursuit of Tyson Fury super-fight – as Gypsy King’s promoter insists he’s happily retired

  • Anthony Joshua’s hopes of facing Tyson Fury have suffered a major blow
  • Fury’s promoter Frank Warren declared that The Gypsy King is happily retired

Anthony Joshua has suffered a significant setback to his hopes of fighting Tyson Fury.

The clash between the two British stars has long been slated but now seems unlikely to happen, with Fury’s promoter Frank Warren insisting that The Gypsy King is happily retired.

Fury announced his retirement from boxing last month following on from his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December.

The proposed two-fight deal between Joshua and Fury which would be worth £150million now appears unlikely to be taken up.

Warren told BoxingScene: ‘I don’t speak to him on a regular basis because he’s spending time with his family.

‘He had nearly a year in training camp with a fight. One camp, very late into the camp, fell apart because of his cut eye.

‘Last year was a lot of sacrifice for him, not seeing his family, his wife and kids and so forth. He’s making up for it now.

‘He’s retired, and I’m just looking forward to him being happy. That’s all I want to do, is see him being happy. He’s retired and God bless him.’

Fury was initially beaten by Usyk in May 2024 before also losing the rematch.

 Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

As a result Fury ended up losing his WBC title as well as his unbeaten record.

Joshua, meanwhile, also lost his most recent fight as he was beaten by Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September last year.

After Joshua withdrew from talks regarding a rematch with Dubois there were hopes that he would be able to face Fury.

However, it now appears that Joshua will have to look for another opponent.

Prior to his defeat to Dubois, Joshua had won his previous four bouts as he overcame Francis Ngannou, Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin.

In total Joshua has won 28 of his 32 professional fights.

Anthony Joshua has been advised to steer clear of a huge showdown with Martin Bakole despite claims the deal is complete.

Joshua is at a crossroads in his heavyweight career after being brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September, and has yet to pencil in concrete details over a return fight.

AJ was keen to face bitter rival Tyson Fury, but the fight appears now off the cards with the ‘Gypsy King’ having announced his retirement from the sport.

He then faced off with Bakole recently, who issued a video call-out on social media, with a huge showdown in Africa on the table.

Incredibly Bakole’s promoter Ben Shalom told talkSPORT recently that a deal was ‘done’, although it is unclear if Joshua has signed on the dotted line.

It would be a tough test for the former two-time champion, with Bakole considered the avoided boogeyman in the blue-riband division.

In the latest episode of talkBOXING, former boxing icon and now renowned promoter Barry McGuigan, insisted he wouldn’t go near Bakole in the current climate.

“If I was managing Anthony Joshua I wouldn’t go near Martin Bakole,” trainer McGuigan said.

“In my opinion there is only another four fights for Joshua. And in reality, he needs to fight for a title or against Tyson Fury.”

Spencer Oliver, former boxer and talkSPORT pundit interjected and insisted the fight with Bakole makes sense for both fighters.

McGuigan then continued: “But for Anthony Joshua, he has probably earned in the region of £200 million.

“So for him, why would he want that fight? I know Turki Alalshikh has taken away the issue of not enough money being in the pot.

“Those fights we have always wanted to see can happen, people used to use the issue of money, but now that has all been eliminated.

Anthony Joshua

“There is absolutely every chance Bakole could be [a world champion in the next 12 months].

“If he gets a fight against any of those guys he can beat them, he is a nightmare of everybody.”

Joshua has always had a desire to fight in Africa, and Bakole plans to get his native Congo involved with the clash.

Bakole recently defeated Jared Anderson, a promising talent, in dominant fashion to cement his name as a rising challenger.

He will next face Efe Ajagba in May, in an IBF world title eliminator, which could position him closer to the world title mix.

Should he face and beat Joshua, it could be the biggest scalp of his career and send his growing reputation to new unprecedented levels.

On Bakole, McGuigan added: “I think he’s a tremendous talent, the biggest threat in the heavyweight division.

“I think he’s kryptonite for Dubois, and ironically enough for Usyk if he gets in the position to fight for it.

“He’s a real problem, 6ft 6ins, he has fast hands, not a dynamite puncher but has a rock solid chin.

“He throws volume, he can take a shot. But if you hit somebody flat in chin and he takes it, then it’s so deflating.”

Moses Itauma could have a seismic 2025 in boxing and has been called out by another high-profile heavyweight.

Itauma has faced comparisons to boxing icon Mike Tyson, given his explosive and powerful style has seen him rise to the 11-0 as a professional at the age of just 20.

He is one of the heavyweight divisions brightest prospects and could face a big 2025 as he takes gradual steps up in quality to slowly push towards the world title mix.

Itauma has been linked with a number of big opportunities in 2025 including a WBO elimintator with Justis Huni, and a shot at WBA ‘regular’ world champion Kubrat Pulev.

But there is a familiar face in town, in the shape of Charles Martin, who wants to take down the hugely talented prodigy.

Martin, who previously reigned as an IBF world champion before being brutally knocked out by Anthony Joshua in 2016, believes he is the man.

He told Sky Sports: “I will do anything to get another title shot.

“I fought Jared Anderson on one week’s notice and had him hurt multiple times.

“I would have knocked Jared out with a real training camp, and I will knock Moses out with a proper camp.

“Right now, he has been stopping everyone quick, but it is real different when another puncher is coming back at you.

“Let’s see if he can take it as good as he gives it. I want another title shot.

“And I know knocking off a young, strong guy that everyone’s talking about would line me up for someone like Daniel Dubois.

“One thing boxing fans know about me is I will fight anyone. The problem has always been getting people to fight me, so I have been forced to take fights on short notice and injured.

“Right now, I am fresh and feel in my prime. I can KO anyone in the world, including a 20-year-old.”

Martin had a poor reign as champion being routinely dispatched of by AJ, and has failed to return to the top ever since.

He has defeats to Adam Kownacki, Luis Ortiz and Jared Anderson to his name since, but has vowed to bounce back.

Mike Tyson

Itauma would still be a made a huge favourite if he fights the experienced operator, given his sensational streak of victories so far.

The Briton blasted out Demsey McKean on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk last time out, and is slowly becoming familiar with the big stage.

And Martin could well be an option for Itauma in a planned April return.

His promoter Francis Warren told talkSPORT: “Yeah there are moving parts, you know what business is like, it could change tomorrow.

“Moses is set to fight again in April before any interim title fight is discussed.

“It is a collective decision to how quick we move but you can rattle off some names,” Warren continued.

“Filip Hrgovic, Otto Wallin, Justis Huni that is a fight that is being talked about, Charles Martin is another great name on our radar.

“But the fact is Moses is 20 in his second year as a professional, and he is already being talked about fighting some of the big guys.”

Former heavyweight boxing champion – who fought Anthony Joshua – ‘set to have 10 years of results revoked’ after testing positive for banned substance

  • Alexander Povetkin has been sanctioned with a 4-year period of ineligibility
  • He tested positive for Ostarine in 2014, as well as failing another test in 2016

Former heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin is set to see a decade’s worth of results revoked following an investigation which uncovered the previously unreported presence of a banned substance.

Povetkin, 45 and retired since 2021, tested positive for Ostarine in 2016 leading to him being served with a 1-year suspension before later returning to the sport.

However, as part of a broader probe into systematic doping in Russian sports, the International Testing Agency has uncovered that Povetkin also tested positive for Ostarine back in 2014.

He is now serving a four-year ‘period of ineligibility’ following the investigation.

The International Testing Agency said: ‘After being notified of the case and informed of his procedural rights, the athlete decided not to challenge the anti-doping rule violation.

‘In addition, the athlete’s results from October 25 2014 until the start of the athlete’s provisional suspension on October 21 2024 have been disqualified, including the results obtained during a boxing match held on the night of October 24/25 2014.’

Anthony Joshua’s Team Responds To Reports That Martin Bakole Fight Is ‘Signed’ And Set For Africa

Speculation has been growing in the last few days that Anthony Joshua and Martin Bakole are set to fight in Africa.

Joshua hasn’t fought since he was stopped inside five rounds by IBF world champion Daniel Dubois back in September. He had hoped to fight Tyson Fury this year but Fury announced his retirement at the start of 2025.

Bakole is an often avoided heavyweight who has stopped Carlos Takam and, even more impressively, the much-hyped American Jared Anderson in his last two fights.

He is now in camp for an IBF eliminator against Efe Ajagba with his promoter, Ben Shalom, saying a deal to face Joshua was ‘done’ for the Congo later in the year.

“The promoter of Martin Bakole, that’s what I want to be known as. The number one heavyweight in the world. It’s done. I’m hearing he’s signed and we’re off to the Congo.”

However, speaking to BoxNation, journalist Gareth A Davis revealed that Joshua’s camp hadn’t even had a conversation about the potential match-up.

“With them saying that I had to check that out with certain people who shall remain nameless off the record but I’m hearing from Anthony Joshua’s side there hasn’t even been a conversation. Maybe this is Bakole and his team trying to speak the fight into reality given that Joshua hasn’t got a fight yet and Tyson Fury has retired and that was his obvious fight this summer.

It would be a major spectacle in Africa, in Congo, in that Stadium that Ali and Foreman fought in. It’s a great event if they can do it there 51 years after the Rumble in the Jungle, but I’m sorry I’m hearing there hasn’t even been a conversation about it.”

For now, it seems that this one is a long way off.
