Oleksandr Usyk wants either Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua for his swansong fight.

The Ukrainian superstar is set to face Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight titles on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in his penultimate professional outing.

It comes after the WBO Championship Committee voted to allow the four-belt shoot-out to come before a mandatory bout with interim champion Joseph Parker.

The Kiwi will be ordered to box the winner of the fight after its conclusion.

But Usyk has made it clear that he would rather box the faces of British boxing instead.

“Right now my focus is on Daniel Dubois and that is what I am working towards,” Usyk told the Daily Mail.

“But, for my last fight, I have two options. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.”

Asked which one he would prefer to box, Usyk replied: “Tyson Fury.”

Usyk defeated Fury on points in a pair of epic duels last year, yet ‘The Gypsy King’ still believes he should have got his hand raise in both contests.

Commenting on social media on Tuesday, he said: “Beat the f***** 2 times the world knows the truth.

“Any time, any place. sucher (sic) UK next time 100k people.”

Fury retired from boxing after losing to Usyk for a second time last December.

However, he sparked speculation that he could be eyeing a return by posting a video of himself and his long-time trainer SugarHill Steward in the gym on Monday.

“Just in the gym. I just bumped into somebody you might know,” he said before turning the camera to Steward.

He then gave the biggest indication he will reverse his retirement yet, by saying: “You know what is coming.”

Steward concurred: “You know what time it is.”

Boxing fans will be hoping that Fury is hinting at the long-awaited all-British showdown with Joshua.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has had the grudge match at the top of his wishlist for some time, and was preparing an offer for the clash before Fury’s bombshell announcement.

A win there could elevate him into a trilogy bout with Usyk.

On this day in 2017, Anthony Joshua heralded the start of a new era of heavyweight boxing by dramatically knocking out Wladimir Klitschko in 11 rounds at Wembley Stadium.

Making the third defence of his IBF title, the Watford boxer also became the WBA champion after recovering from the first knockdown of his career.

In front of an estimated 90,000-strong crowd, a post-war record for a fight in the UK, Joshua faced severe risk of his first defeat after hitting the canvas in the sixth round following a huge right hand from Klitschko.

In his post-fight comments, Joshua expressed gratitude towards Klitschko, saying: “A massive shout out to Wladimir Klitschko for taking part, I’m not going to say too much, in terms of the boxing hall of fame, he’s a role model in and out of the ring.”

Klitschko, graceful in defeat, said: “London, I hope you enjoyed the fight, he beat me at his best, the best man won tonight.”

Tyson Fury has teased a fight against long-time British rival Anthony Joshua just months after quitting boxing.

Fury, 36, announced his retirement after losing consecutive bouts against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Although competitive in both, he said he was hanging up his gloves in the aftermath of a unanimous points decision loss to the Ukrainian in Riyadh last December.

However, in the past few weeks Fury sparked talk of a comeback with a series of social media posts showing him back in training.

That went up a level on Monday after he posted a video of him reuniting with his trainer SugarHill Steward and declaring: “You know what’s coming.”

Few observers believed Fury when he said he was retiring. The Morecambe heavyweight (34-2-1) has walked away from boxing numerous times over the years only to return to the sport.

And, in an era of big money heavyweight bouts, the lure of what would likely be a career-high payday to take on Joshua is surely too strong to resist.

Fury has worked with Steward since ditching Ben Davison in 2019, with the partnership helping propel him back to the top of the division.

“Just in the gym. Happened to bump into somebody you might know,” Fury said, turning the camera to Steward, who replied: “You know what time it is,” before Fury added: “You know what’s coming.”

It is also no coincidence that Fury’s attention-seeking post arrived in the middle of press activity for July’s upcoming rematch between Usyk and Daniel Dubois. With the eyes of the media on heavyweight boxing, there was no better time for him to tease a ring return.

A showdown between Fury and Joshua has always been the endgame for both men, especially now with their career prospects terminally damaged but their celebrity still burning brightly.

Twice beaten by Usyk and toying with retirement, it’s the only fight that could bring Fury back, while the same goes for Joshua (28-4), who at this stage is unlikely to launch another rebuild following his devastating September 2024 defeat to Dubois.

Despite their setbacks, a bout between the two most famous heavyweights of this era remains one of the biggest commercial opportunities in boxing.

It is said to be on a short wish list drawn up by Netflix, with the streaming giants keen to explore live combat sports options following the success of the Mike Tyson v Jake Paul exhibition bout which drew a staggering 60 million households worldwide last November.

Netflix has already confirmed it will screen the third instalment of Katie Taylor’s rivalry with Amanda Serrano in July, while there have been strong rumours of them making a play for the planned September showdown between ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford, as well as a Joshua-Fury bout should it ever materialise.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn welcomed Netflix’s interest in boxing but said a deal would need to be struck with Dazn if they wanted to broadcast one of his fights.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury

“AJ is exclusive to Dazn,” Hearn told the Stomping Ground YouTube channel. “That would be a decision for Dazn, if there was a relationship with Netflix, I don’t know…

“Netflix in boxing is amazing. [Jake Paul’s promotional company] MVP has done a brilliant job with that. Taylor v Serrano is going to be huge, as was the last one on the undercard of Tyson-Paul, so I guess [Netflix] are looking for those big moments, and there is nothing bigger than AJ v Fury, but right now we know that is not an option.”

Surly Dubois has warning for Usyk

Britain’s Dubois again showed his newly discovered mean streak when he met up with old foe Usyk this week.

On Sunday it was announced that the two will fight for the undisputed heavyweight crown at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 19.

Usyk (23-0), holds the WBC, WBA and WBO belts and is seeking to become a four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time, while Britain’s Dubois (22-2) is the IBF holder.

Usyk has faced Dubois before, earning a controversial ninth-round knockout win in Wroclaw, Poland, in August 2023 after being given time to recover from what the referee ruled to have been a low blow.

Back then Dubois could cut a timid figure and he was accused of quitting in defeat to Joe Joyce and against Usyk when, fatigued and exasperated, he stayed down after being dropped by a jab.

Anthony Joshua issues emphatic nine-word response to Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn blockbuster

Anthony Joshua was feeling patriotic after watching Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr and Benn fought it out in a 12-round all-time British classic brawl at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.

Both men give it their absolute all, but it was Eubank Jr who came out victorious as he celebrated with his father, Chris Eubank Sr – who defeated Benn’s dad, Nigel, 35 years ago in Birmingham – after edging a unanimous decision.

Boxing enthusiasts and fans across the world were blown away after the spectacle in north London.

Former world heavyweight champion and Team GB Olympic representative Joshua felt the same way.

“Watching this fight makes me proud to be British,” he wrote on X in the immediate aftermath of the bout.

Several other personalities in the combat sports world offered positive reactions.

Ryan Garcia, who headlines Ring Magazine’s next boxing card in Times Square, New York City, on May 2 against Rolando Romero, said: “Honestly there really isn’t a loser [in] this fight! Head high Conor.”

UFC star Dustin Poirier, who is the last man to fight Conor McGregor, and takes on Max Holloway in July for his final MMA bout, added: “This is a dog fight!”

YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul named the fight in his favourite of all time, saying: “My three favorite fights since I started boxing: 1) Taylor Serrano 2 2) Eubank Jr Benn 3) Fury Wilder 3.”

Piers Morgan, who conducted an explosive interview with both Eubank Jr and Benn in the build up to their clash, said: “One of the best fights I’ve seen in years.

“Congrats Benn and Eubank Jr on a thrilling contest. And congrats to Turki Alalshikh on staging an amazing event.”

Ex-boxing world champion Oscar De La Hoya wrote: “Beautiful fight! Both winners!”

And former five-weight world champion Claressa Shields got emotional, as he said: “Conor Benn got some skills! I don’t think he got outskilled, he got out hustled if you ask me.

“But what a man to go up two weight classes and stand up like that. Wow. I don’t know why my eyes are watery but what a fight. How special.”

Anthony Joshua

Eubank Jr was rushed to hospital immediately after his victory and is set to remain there until Monday.

Elsewhere on the card, Anthony Yarde won his trilogy fight with Lyndon Arthur, Liam Smith was beaten by Aaron McKenna, Cheavon Clarke lost a north London derby to Viddal Riley, and Chris Billam-Smith beat Brandon Glanton.

Speaking to talkSPORT after the headline act, Eubank Sr was full of praise for Benn in his reflections of his son’s war.

“I was always going to be here for my son, irrespective of what you thought,” he said.

“Suspense is part of the game. The performance, championship rounds, standing toe to toe.

“The credit I am going to give to Conor – I told you he was a superior fighter, but he shouldn’t be fighting at 160lbs.

“He is a 147lbs fighter. What couldn’t he do around the world? He has been destroyed by the people who are handling him.

“They need to be held to account. Do your job, do your job, do your job!”

Benn’s father, Nigel, beamed with pride despite his son suffering a tough defeat.

He said: “I thought he done really well. He’ll learn a lot from this, he’ll come back stronger.

“We can handle defeat gracefully. Now we go back to the drawing board.”

Eubank Jr and Benn are now expected to rematch, as per the clause inserted into their contracts, with reports suggesting it will take place in October 2025 in the Tottenham ground once again.

Two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nigeria for the “energy, generosity and kindness” he experienced during his recent visit, as he departs to continue preparations for his next fight. The British-Nigerian boxer, who had been in his ancestral homeland to complete rehabilitation from an injury, shared his appreciation in a message posted on his Instagram account.

“Nigeria, thank you for your energy, generosity & kindness,” Joshua wrote, a note many fans interpreted as a farewell message as he heads back to England. Supporters flooded the comments with words of encouragement. Gbadia Figheghawei wrote, “Go and take over the world, my brother,” while Olumayowa Odejimi declared, “We are behind you champ 3x,” predicting a third championship title. Another user, @iamdx2, commented, “You have refuelled your energy, we want you to go and take back your world belts.” Royal Diadem remarked, “Nigerians know how to have a good time. AJ, you had a good time.”

During his stay, the 35-year-old boxer created several viral moments, including a video of him getting a street-side haircut and walking among crowds, warmly interacting with locals. His embrace of Nigerian culture and connection with fans further endeared him to the public. Proud of his roots, Joshua—born to a Nigerian mother and a father of Nigerian and Irish descent—has a tattoo of Africa on his shoulder, with Nigeria’s borders outlined prominently.

His visit to Sagamu, his ancestral hometown, sparked excitement and trended widely on social media. One standout moment from the trip was his attendance at the birthday celebration of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, where Joshua mingled with Nigerian billionaires. Another viral highlight was a lighthearted interaction with his personal chef.

Now returning to England, Joshua is focused on resuming his boxing career after recovering from the injury he sustained in his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley. According to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, this could be the final chapter of Joshua’s professional career. “This is the final year. Let’s not beat around the bush,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “He’s going to have somewhere between – it could always be your last fight – but one and three fights, that’s the reality of the situation.”

Anthony Joshua

Meanwhile, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has shown interest in facing Joshua in a potential blockbuster bout next year. The 38-year-old American, who is seeking a comeback after losing four of his last five fights, believes their long-anticipated matchup could take place in 2026.

In a lighter note, popular Nigerian street-pop musician Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, may be disappointed by Joshua’s departure. Portable recently declared his desire to fight the boxing star following his victory over fellow entertainer Speed Darlington. “Now that I’ve beaten Speed Darlington, it is only Anthony Joshua I can fight now,” he said, humorously proposing a N100 million bout and dismissing Speed Darlington as an unworthy opponent.

Daniel Dubois fought the bout of his life to knock out British boxing star Anthony Joshua in the fifth round to defend his IBF heavyweight title at sold-out Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Dubois came out aggressively and used his jab to control the distance and walk down Joshua. He dropped Joshua with a monster right hand at the end of the first, with Joshua barely surviving the round.

Joshua was still stunned to start the second and Dubois stayed aggressive, but Joshua seemed to recover by the end of the round.

But Dubois never slowed and proceeded to drop Joshua in the third, fourth and fifth and final round.

Joshua was actually landing his best shots of the night in the fifth when he got careless and Dubois walloped him with an overhand right. Joshua dropped to the canvas and referee Marcus McDonnell waved it off with 2:03 left in the round.

Joshua, 34, has now lost to Andy Ruiz, Oleksandr Usyk twice and now Dubois, and you have to wonder about his chin and just how much he has left as a championship contender. He had regained momentum after knocking out former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the second round in March, but Dubois, 27, proved his boxing mettle.

Dubois had his doubters after many believed he quit in a 2020 loss to Joe Joyce, but he stood up to the former champion and completely dominated him. After the bout, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, said he believed Joshua would exercise his rematch clause with Dubois.

With the heavyweight championship rematch between titleholder Usyk and Tyson Fury scheduled for Dec. 21, it make sense for the winner to perhaps face the winner of a possible rematch between Dubois and Joshua. Still there is a long way to go to get to that point and anything could happen in the world of boxing.

Joshua dropped to 28-4 (25 KOs) while Dubois improved to 22-2 (21 KOs) and answered any remaining questions about his fighting spirit and his ability to handle the pressure and immense energy at Wembley.

  • AJ landed big on Dubois but then took a monster shot. It is over in Round 5!

    Dubois KOs AJ!!!

    • Round 4

AJ taunts Dubois near the end of the round. No idea why. AJ is getting PUMMELED.

      Dubois, 40-33

    • AJ getting mauled. How long will this go on?

    • Low blow warning for Dubois.

    • What looked liked another AJ knockdown was waved off. Weird.

    • Another Dubois knockdown in Round 4!

    • Round 3

AJ has his best round until the end, when Dubois wallops him and knocks him down near the end of the round.

      Dubois, 30-25

      • AJ pumping the jab to keep Dubois away.

      • Round 2

Dubois remains aggressive and uses the jab effectively and lands some big shots. AJ seemed to recover by the end of the round though.

        Dubois, 20-17

        • Dubois is remaining agressive!

        • AJ is still stunned in Round 2

        • Round 1

Dubois comes out aggressive and attacks AJ. Dubois jab looks great. Dubois definitely the aggressor. And a big right hand drops Joshua!! AJ survives!

          Dubois, 10-8

        • And we’re off!

          • Michael Buffer is now about to introduce the anthems and then the fighters.

Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has predicted who wins if Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder finally come to blows.

Both of these big men are former world champions, and both ruled concurrently for several years.

However, they never managed to negotiate a fight and both were kept busy with other contests until eventually they both got dethroned. It was Tyson Fury who beat Wilder twice in their epic trilogy after drawing the first fight. That kept Wilder away from the ring for a while, and when he did return after a first-round KO against Robert Helenius, he went on to lose to Joseph Parker on points, then got stopped by Zhilei Zhang last June. He is set to return to the ring against Tyrrell Herndon on Friday, June 27th, 2025. at Charles Koch Arena, Wichita.

Joshua lost his belts to Usyk in 2021, then failed to win them back in the rematch in 2022. He rebuilt with good wins over Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou but then got stopped inside five by Daniel Dubois in September last year.

Wilder has recently spoken about his desire to make the match-up happen, saying it was ‘close’ and could happen as soon as next year.

“Not this year, for sure, but in the near future. Maybe sometime next year, maybe a year after that. Everything, all that, is close. We just all got to do what we gotta do.”

Speaking to Daily Mail Sport for a round of winner stays on, Usyk was asked who would come out on top between Brit ‘AJ’ and the American ‘The Bronze Bomber’, and he sided with his old foe.

“Anthony Joshua.”

Joshua is currently out recovering from injury and many fans hope to see him in with Tyson Fury next, should he come out of retirement. Wilder would also need to get some wins under his belt to help build a potential showdown with Joshua.

Joshua Eyes Boxing Return After Dubois Defeat

The 35-year-old returns to England to resume training after recovering from the injury he suffered in his fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September.

His promoter Eddie Hearn recently hinted this may be the final stretch of Joshua’s career.

“This is the final year. Let’s not beat around the bush,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “It could always be your last fight – but realistically, between one and three fights left.”

Deontay Wilder Eyes Clash with Joshua in 2026

Meanwhile, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has rekindled hopes for a blockbuster fight with Joshua. The 38-year-old American, who has suffered four losses in his last five bouts, believes a long-anticipated showdown could happen in 2026.

Portable Challenges Joshua After Defeating Speed Darlington

In a lighter twist, controversial Nigerian street-pop singer Portable (Habeeb Okikiola) stirred online buzz after publicly challenging Joshua to a fight.

“Now that I’ve beaten Speed Darlington, it is only Anthony Joshua I can fight now,” he said in an interview with pressmen, claiming Speed Darlington was not a worthy opponent.

Portable had earlier demanded ₦100 million to face Joshua, keeping fans entertained with his eccentric boxing aspirations.

According to Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua can arrange a fight with Tyson Fury.

According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua only need to send one clear message to set up their eagerly awaited bout.

Eddie Hearn suggests Anthony Joshua has ‘between one and three fights left’ in boxing

Anthony Joshua could have anywhere “between one and three fights left” in his career but will return this year, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.

Joshua, 35, has not fought since his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, when he tumbled to the canvas during a devastating fifth round.

He recently suffered an injury set-back but is set to make a highly anticipated return to boxing this year and Hearn said the former world heavyweight champion is targeting the “biggest fight possible”.

Hearn told the Independent: “The next decision is really important, he’s got anywhere between one and three fights left. We’ve got to get it right but he is 100 per cent fighting this year.

“He is definitely fighting in 2025, when I don’t really know because he’s probably got about two weeks before we can go back to training and start punching properly. That’s been the problem for him, but once he does that we can start thinking about a realistic date.

Anthony Joshua

“We’re not really in any rush because the decision is so important. Obviously, in a dream scenario Mr [Tyson] Fury just wakes up one morning and goes ‘Yeah, we’ll give everyone the biggest fight in boxing’.

“Probably calls AJ and then they get a deal done on the phone, in five minutes. But, we can’t operate on that basis, so right now we are just looking to meet up in a couple of weeks and go through the options.”

Hearn also discussed the pressure of choosing the right date for AJ’s return to the ring, expressing that: “Until he returns back to full-time training it’s difficult to nail a date.

“If he starts training in May or just after it may have been a little bit early, so for us it’s August or September – something like that.

“People keep saying ‘Who?’ [will he fight], I always get asked in an interview ‘Who though, give us some names?’

“I honestly don’t know, he can fight anyway he wants, and at the moment he’s just kind of relaxed. He’s been to Nigeria and had a great time out there. He is looking forward to fighting again but also we recognised that the next decision has to be right, we’re looking forward to that.

Hearn guaranteed: “It will be a big fight, the biggest fight possible and I believe he still has a lot to give.”
