Anthony Joshua has begun training again for the first time since losing to Daniel Dubois.

The British heavyweight has yet to pencil in his next showdown in the squared circle, having been brutally dropped three times and stopped by Daniel Dubois in September.

He is eyeing a ring return in 2025, and has been linked with a number of fights including against Martin Bakole.

Joshua is expected to wait for the winner of this weekend’s clash between Dubois and Joseph Parker before making his next move.

But in the meantime, AJ has decided to begin working out again.

He posted two videos of training footage, one on the beach shirtless where he still looked in impressive shape.

And his workout continued by night, as he then posted another video of himself boxing against a gazebo, not afraid to use any objects he can.

Fans were trying to spot any clues as to his current condition and potential next fight.

And they all noticed he was working on his defence while throwing punches, keeping his hands firmly up.

One wrote: “He’s keeping his hands up, needs to make sure he does that in his next fight.”

Another added: “Yeah now he needs to keep them up, especially so he doesn’t visit hook city.”

A viewer agreed: “He needs to keep working on his defence to protect his chin.”

Other fans gave a more optimistic take, with one writing: “3x heavyweight champion coming soon.”

One even concluded: “He looks in great shape, he’s going to return with a win.”

But others were less so, with one writing: “Bakole beats him.”

A viewer even joked: “He needs to train his chin instead.”

Despite his defeat, Joshua is still viewed as a leading heavyweight and will be hoping to return into the world title mix this year.

He was first keen to face Tyson Fury in a two-fight deal which was expected to be his main pursuit in 2025.

But the ‘Gypsy King’ retired and appeared to put a damaging blow to Joshua’s chances of settling his rivalry.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has now suggested the winner of Dubois vs Parker will now be the primary target.

Anthony Joshua

“Right now because Tyson Fury is retired, so put him to the side, the number one choice for AJ is to fight for the world heavyweight title,” Hearn told Betfred.

“That’s 99 per cent of what he wants to do and if that’s Daniel Dubois, no problem. If that’s Joseph Parker, no problem.

“If AJ turns around and says that’s what he’s doing, then it’s done.

“It’s not me saying he can’t fight Daniel Dubois. Some people say he shouldn’t have fought Oleksandr Usyk. What are you talking about?

“It’s your job, he’s the mandatory, what do you want to do?

“Give your belt up and have all that criticism that you ducked Usyk and you vacated your belt to do it?”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have not often seen eye to eye but seem to agree on who will win the upcoming IBF heavyweight world title fight.

Fury retired in January after a second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk left him without any belts. The Ukrainian also handed the same fate to Joshua when the pair fought in back-to-back contests in 2021 and 2022.

As such, many fans hoped the two British rivals would come together for a final legacy-defining contest, but with Fury now having walked away from the sport, that is off the table.

Instead, the next big fight on the horizon is an IBF title defence for the in-form Daniel Dubois against the equally in-form Joseph Parker on February 22.

Between them, these two have beaten Joshua, Zhilei Zhang, Deontay Wilder, Fillip Hrgvic and Jarrell Miller in their last few contests.

When he was with Turki Alalshikh recently, Joshua was asked by the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority who he was backing on the contest and he went with his former victim Parker to come out on top and establish himself as a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Meanwhile, when speaking to TNT Sports, ‘The Gypsy King’ was asked the same questions and answered the same way.

“I’ve got to go with my old pal, Joseph Parker.”

Fury and Parker have been in camp many times together, and he and ‘AJ’ are not the only ones backing the New Zealander to come to on top with former British title challenger David Adeleye also leaning towards him.

For the winner, a potential undisputed bout with Usyk awaits.

Nigerian-born British two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly exploring alternative options for his next fight while Tyson Fury remains in retirement.

Fury, a 36-year-old British former heavyweight champion, shocked the boxing world by announcing his retirement following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua is coming off a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Dubois is set to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight champion title against Joseph Parker next Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Joshua will be watching closely, with the possibility of facing the winner as he aims to become a three-time heavyweight champion.

Despite Joshua’s knockout loss to Dubois in September, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn dismissed speculation about Joshua’s retirement. He noted that Joshua remains dedicated and sharp in training, indicating that retirement discussions are premature.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury

“Right now, because Tyson Fury is retired—so put him to the side for one second—the number one choice for AJ is to fight for the world heavyweight title,” promoter Eddie Hearn told BetFred.

“That’s 99 per cent of what he wants to do, and if that’s Daniel Dubois, no problem. If that’s Joseph Parker, no problem. If AJ decides that’s the fight he wants, then it’s done.”

Hearn also dismissed any speculation that Anthony Joshua could soon join Fury in retirement.

“Not yet, but that time will come,” he said. “Those conversations usually happen based on how someone performs in camp. If you haven’t got it anymore, it becomes apparent—injuries get worse, you struggle in sparring, and you lose sharpness. That’s when the team will have a conversation.”

Former heavyweight boxer David Price has backed Anthony Joshua to win another world title despite the British-Nigerian’s devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua, 35, suffered a setback in his bid to become a three-time world heavyweight champion when he was stopped by Dubois, but Price believes the former champion can bounce back.

“I think winning another version of a world title is definitely doable for him. I think that’s the best outcome he could wish for. Being undisputed or unified is probably asking a bit too much, but you just don’t know what the future holds,” Price told Mirror Fighting.

Prior to the Dubois defeat, Joshua had been on an impressive four-fight winning streak, defeating Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

Price praised Joshua’s mental fortitude and ability to overcome setbacks, comparing it to his own experience.

“I know from experience what a loss can do. My first defeat ruined me, I couldn’t forgive myself for how I lost my first fight. Joshua has the strength to just move forward,” he said.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has outlined seven potential opponents for his next fight following Tyson Fury’s retirement announcement. The options include Martin Bakole, Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, Agit Kabayel, Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker.

Price also highlighted Joshua’s impact on British boxing, particularly his ability to sell out major stadiums.

“He changed the landscape for all British fighters. There wasn’t such a thing as regular stadium fights until he appeared, they were far and few between,” Price added.

“He sold out Wembley and Cardiff. Without Joshua, that sort of thing wouldn’t be happening. You look at the recordings of Frank Bruno fights in stadiums where it looks empty; Joshua and the combination of him with Sky Sports at the time just got so many people interested and brought new fans into the sport.”

Anthony Joshua was largely out-gunned by Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium, but managed to almost turn the tide towards the end.

Dubois, who had been elevated to IBF Champion, entered the ring an underdog. Despite that, he hurt ‘AJ’ significantly in the first round with a shot that would shape the entire contest.

Joshua showed incredible heart to stick around, being dropped a total of four times before the eventual fifth round ending. Before the final shot put him down and rendered him unable to make the referee’s count, he had his best success of the fight.

A right hand put Dubois on the back-foot and got the crowd on their feet. ‘AJ’ would land two more before ‘rolling the dice’ by throwing an uppercut only to be caught on the way in

Speaking to the Ring Magazine, Dubois said the shot in question was like ‘a bomb going off.’

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois

“Honestly, it was a quick thing. It was in the moment. I just composed myself. It was a hell of a shot. I’ve watched it back and I’ve heard the sound. It’s like a bomb going off. But yeah [I’ve got a good chin], I just composed myself, studied what I was doing and took the chance, took victory.”

There may be a rematch down the line, it is certainly a fight Joshua wants, however Dubois first defends his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22. Should he retain it, he will look to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk to become undisputed.

Meanwhile, Joshua is in the market for an opponent after Tyson Fury announced his retirement and put paid to talks of a long-awaited clash.

Anthony Joshua and Martin Bakole are frequently mentioned to co-star in a thrilling heavyweight clash.

Former two-time champion Joshua is currently looking for a comeback fight after suffering a big knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in his bid to get the belt for the third time. Whilst Bakole – who has been riding a wave since his KO over Jared Anderson last year – would be a dangerous choice, the Brit has made it clear that he will fight all comers.

Speaking to IFL TV, former Joshua opponent Dillian Whyte disagreed with those saying the risk was all ‘AJ’s.

“I think that’s a great fight. Everyone says it’s dangerous fight for AJ but, me personally, I don’t think so. I think Bakole’s very confident. Confident from the sparring, confident from his last two, three performances. I think that works in AJ’s favour. I think he’s gonna walk to AJ with his hands down, try to fight AJ the same way he fought Jared Anderson. He’ll run into a big shot and get knocked out.

“AJ’s a big puncher. If you stand in front of AJ, he will knock you out. He won’t have to go and look for Bakole, Bakole’s gonna be right in front of him. AJ struggles with people with good boxing and movement.”

As for the infamous sparring sessions in which Bakole claims to have left Joshua on shaky legs, Whyte warned that those gym sessions play out very different than in the professional ring.

“You might be winning in sparring, but the fight’s different. In sparring you’ve got three or four sparring partners doing two rounds in, two rounds out. It’s you alone against three or four top heavyweights. A fight is me and you alone in there with 10 ounce gloves on for twelve rounds.

“AJ’s a big puncher. I’d actually pick AJ to win that fight … And AJ’s not my friend.”

Before the match-up can be discussed, Bakole has a final eliminator for the IBF mandatory slot in May against Efe Ajagba. Should he win, he will be in pole position to face champion Dubois.

• Ronaldo still number one

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are among six boxers to make the 2024 Sportico rich list, reports talksport.com. Over the last 12 months from February 12, 2024, to February 12, 2025, Sportico tracked the income of the world’s biggest sports stars to compile their annual list.

Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo came out on top with a whopping $260m while Golden State Warriors points guard Steph Curry cashed $153.8m in 2024. Following closely behind in third place was former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who earned a monumental $147m from his two fights with Oleksandr Usyk plus endorsements.

Lionel Messi, Lebron James, and Neymar made up places four to six just ahead of Usyk at number seven. Fury earned a lion’s share of the purse, but the Ukrainian slickster still took home $122m of the pay pot plus endorsements. He is expected to shoot up the list in 2025 after signing a money-spinning four-fight deal with Riyadh Season that includes a September showdown with Terence Crawford.

Joshua was the fourth-highest-earning boxer in 2024 and 30th overall in sports with $60m. The Watford powerhouse kicked off his year with a bang by knocking out former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou inside two rounds in March before ending up on the receiving end of an equally brutal stoppage at the hands of Daniel Dubois in September.

Tyson Fury and Anthony JoshuaTwenty two spaces below AJ, Jake Paul came in as the fifth-highest-earning boxer in 2024 after his record-breaking Netflix clash with Mike Tyson in November.

The fight, which was staged at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, generated more than $17.8 million at the gate to become boxing’s biggest box-office success in the United States outside of Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, an estimated 108 million people tuned in to watch the crossover contest. Paul pocketed $38m for the fight. An extra $10m in endorsements brings him up to $48m overall.

The sixth boxer to make the Sportico Top 100 was Japanese sensation, Naoya Inoue at No.81. He, like Canelo, is expected to have an even bigger 2025 after signing a multi-fight deal with Riyadh Season.

Year 2024 was a fruitful year for the undisputed super bantamweight champion, who defeated Luis Nery, and TJ Doheny last year before taking out Kim Ye-joon at the start of 2025.

In total, he took home $42m – his most lucrative annum to date.

Carl Froch reckons Tyson Fury would be interested in a £100million fight against British rival Anthony Joshua.

Fury announced his retirement from boxing in January just weeks after losing to Oleksandr Usyk for a second time. The 36-year-old previously declared his retirement before offering up a U-turn. However, this latest announcement follows Usyk’s victory over the ex-unified heavyweight champion in their highly anticipated rematch in December.

The Manchester-born fighter was defeated by unanimous decision months after failing to secure victory in their match for the undisputed championship of the heavyweight division in May. Fury’s announcement seemed to extinguish any possibility of a bout with Joshua, which could have – arguably – been the most significant event in British boxing history.

But former super-middleweight champion and current boxing pundit Froch says ‘The Gypsy King’ might not stay retired for long if a potential big-money fight against Joshua comes about.

“I’m not sure [if he will stay retired] because he’s quite stubborn and when he digs his heels in, and similar to me, he’ll double down on it,” he said via Action Network.

Froch went on: “It’s like a lot of boxers. He has retired because deep down he knows he is probably past his best and lost two fights (to Oleksandr Usyk) and I know personally he is p*****. I spoke to somebody close to his team and he’s really frustrated and p***** off that he lost the rematch, but he did lose and lost fair and square.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

“It was a close fight, but wasn’t very entertaining, not like the first one where there were moments of excitement, and not a lot happened. I think Usyk did enough to win.

“He shouldn’t have any complaints apart from the frustration that he didn’t go for it.

“I just think Tyson Fury had a bit more left in the tank and could’ve tried a little harder. He’s the bigger man and is heavier. Maybe Fury is feeling a little let down by himself, and it might bring him out of retirement one last time and the fight with Anthony Joshua is a big fight as much as I think that’s not as big of a fight as it could have been, and isn’t as exciting without a title.

“Anthony Joshua has been done a few times now and he’s past his best. Tyson Fury is 36, he’s overweight and he struggles to get fit, so there’s nothing at stake apart from a bragging rights fight. It’s too late now. I’m not excited, but I appreciate it’s a big fight for Britain and if he gets offered £100million then he will take the fight.”

Tyson Fury may have announced his retirement, but there is still plenty of hope he will fight Anthony Joshua.

‘The Gypsy King’ revealed he was walking away from the sport in a brief social media post at the start of January. It came just weeks after his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

The first of those in May was for all four belts and undisputed honours. Fury lost narrowly on points. The second was for three of the four belts and saw the Ukrainian take the win again, handing Fury his second professional loss.

For many years, the former world champion was long linked with a fight with fellow Brit Joshua and it seemed the time was now right given that Joshua also lost his last fight against Dubois in September, leaving both men with seemingly nowhere better to go than this legacy-defining contest.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, promoter Eddie Hearn outlined what must happen if the fight is to go ahead next given that Joshua – who has also lost twice to Usyk – is keen to fight on.

“When you talk about Tyson Fury, he would need to come out of retirement in the next couple of weeks to fight ‘AJ’ next because ‘AJ ‘is looking to fight himself, twice this year, first one in the summer, June, whenever that is going to be, then again at the end of the year. If Fury doesn’t come out of retirement soon that fight is not going to happen next.”

Right now, Fury remains retried with no word of any change of heart.

Anthony Joshua has delivered his verdict on what he thinks the outcome of Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker will be later this month. Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, has shared the ring with both men who are due to meet in a title bout on the 22nd of February.

AJ beat Parker in 2018, delivering the New Zealander the first loss of his professional career, losing his WBO title in the process. Dubois and Joshua then squared off last September, with Dynamite knocking AJ down four times before he eventually knocked him out for good in the fifth round.

However, it’s not Dubois that Joshua is tipping for victory.

Anthony Joshua Backs Joseph Parker

The Brit has claimed Parker will beat his countryman later this month

In a post on Turki Alalshikh’s X account, Joshua backed Parker to prevail later this month, as the 33-year-old bids to become a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Parker has seen a resurgence under new trainer Andy Lee in the past 18 months with wins over Simon Kean, Deontay Wilder, and Zhilei Zhang. Much like Parker, however, Dubois himself has been on a great run of late. Dynamite has won all three of his fights since a controversial loss to Oleksandr Usyk in August 2023, with wins against Joshua, Filip Hrgovic, and Jarrell Miller.

Joe Joyce Discusses Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker

The Juggernaut has beaten both fighters

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois

Joe Joyce is the only boxer to have beaten both Parker and Dubois, and while speaking about the upcoming fight himself, he told Fight Hub TV: “Parker is very tricky, he’s hungry, he’s still young, and he’s getting stronger as well. He looks strong, he’s had a great camp, he’s tricky. Dubois hits hard and they both have good momentum. It’s a tough fight for both and may the best man win.”

When pressed for a prediction, he said: “Thinking about it, I was going to say methods of victory. Parker is more likely to go points. Dubois is more likely to finish by knockout.”

The winner of the bout will put themselves in a good position for a unification match-up against Usyk. Dubois has already confronted the Ukrainian in the ring after his victory over Tyson Fury in December 2024. The 27-year-old Brit grabbed a microphone and said: “I want my revenge, Usyk.”
