If Daniel Dubois continues with the momentum he is on, he can definitely achieve the heights of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Dubois is still relatively young at 27 years old, has fought at the highest level and is one of the few British fighters in contention to be the new face of boxing.

We sparred a lot in our early days. We made our professional debuts on the same day, although our previous boxing experience was vastly different with me coming through the unlicensed white-collar scene and Dubois through the more traditional amateur set-up.

It has been a good three years or so since we last sparred and he was a different Dubois back then.

He seems like he has matured, found his footing and found his self-confidence.

Winning does have a habit of doing that to you. All his experiences, the wins, the losses, the hard times and the good times, have built a level of self-belief.

There are some areas where he is still not at AJ or Fury’s level, though.

Yes, you need to do the job in the ring and knock people out in emphatic fashion and all of the rest, but there is a level of prowess and speech – the star power – that you need to become the head of the division, a title Fury and AJ have both held over the past few years.

AJ and Fury are polar opposites in terms of how their star power works or how they behave. With AJ it’s that calm, cool, confident, down-to-earth chilled guy. With Fury, he’s louder, braggadocious, entertaining.

Dubois is a quiet guy but he is becoming a bit of a character with his one-liners. He will develop his own version of what that star power looks like, because that personality can come in so many different shapes and sizes.

In order to get to that level, though, he needs to get past a tough Joseph Parker – which is no easy task.

There is a case to be made for both fighters. Dubois’ confidence and power, and his willingness to throw down against a resurgent fighter who has seen it and done it all.

Dubois faces tall task of Usyk if he beats Parker

Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua

In boxing, there is always a point to prove with someone. There will be some people who will still look at Dubois’ loss to Joe Joyce in 2020 and say there are flaws there.

Dubois’ defeat by Oleksandr Usyk is not one to be ashamed of in any way, though there will be people who will pick singular actions from that loss and see how they transfer into the Parker fight.

But there are so many positives to take from Dubois’ career too. Just look at his performances against Filip Hrgovic, Jarrell Miller and Joshua.

A win for Dubois would set up the rematch with Usyk, this time for all four world titles.

To bet against Usyk in any moment right now feels silly. He has proven himself against AJ and Fury twice. It would not be too much of a stretch to say he can prove himself against Dubois twice over.

Usyk just always finds a way to win and he can learn even in the middle of a fight. I am not saying Dubois would have no chance whatsoever, but I do think it would be a tall task.

Before we even begin entertaining those undisputed title conversations, though, Dubois must get past a very confident Parker who is desperate to become a two-time world champion.

Resurgent Parker one of boxing’s good guys

There was talk of me challenging Dubois in Riyadh. Boxing is a funny game and things do not always come together. There are always discussions of every option going on in the background.

I am a very game and up-for-it kind of guy. If the opportunity had presented itself fully I would have grabbed it with both hands.

It wasn’t my go this time but I am so happy to see Parker get his shot. He’s definitely one of the nice guys in boxing – a great laugh and fun to be around.

Even before I was making any waves on the big stage in boxing, when I was fighting lower on cards, he’d always stop, make time and say hello.

He is on a roll with wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, and so much of that is down to his trainer Andy Lee. It shows what a good relationship with a great coach can do.

I also like how Parker has handled himself in the build-up, showing Dubois respect but also letting him know that he is a seasoned pro who has weathered storms in the past.

It is going to be a great fight. Both of them had a bit of a drop-off in their careers and then a massive rise. Right now they are both on a tremendous high and it is too hard to confidently pick a winner.

Anthony Joshua Predicts Zhilei Zhang vs Agit Kabayel Fight After Sharing The Ring With Both

Anthony Joshua has cast his mind over Zhilei Zhang’s fight with Agit Kabayel knowing that facing the winner is a real possibility.

Joshua remains a big deal in the heavyweight division and he has often been called out by Zhang. The stars have never aligned for them to fight in the pro ranks, although the Brit beat the Chinese southpaw at the London 2012 Olympics.

‘AJ’ is currently on the sidelines after being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September last year, thereby failing so far in his mission to become a three-time world champion.

Zhang’s fortunes have been different in the last couple of years. He has twice stopped Brit Joe Joyce and also knocked out American puncher Deontay Wilder to bounce back from a points loss to Joseph Parker. He now goes into this fight with Kabayel for the WBC Interim Heavyweight title.

Kabayel – who has sparred many rounds with Joshua – is an impressive unbeaten heavyweight, who stopped Frank Sanchez and Arslanbek Makhmudov in his two most recent bouts.

Speaking to Turki Alalshikh, Joshua revealed who he thought would win and went with ‘Big Bang’ Zhang.

The winner of this fight on February 22 in Saudi Arabia will have a fine array of options including challenging Oleksandr Usyk, the holder of the full WBC title, but also that big money fight with Joshua, who is still rated number 6 with the WBC despite never having held its belt.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has listed either Zhang or Kabayel, depending on their fortunes this weekend, as potential opponents for his charge, that is if he can’t land a title shot against the winner of Dubois vs Parker further up the card.

See why Hearn believes Anthony Joshua will still make a lot of money even if does not fight Tyson Fury.

Even though Anthony Joshua lost catastrophically during his most recent bout, Eddie Hearn believes he still has the strongest hand in the heavyweight deck.

Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion, recently lost to Daniel Dubois via fifth-round knockout in September.

Anthony Joshua’s next fight

Until the Gypsy King’s sudden retirement last month, all indications were that Joshua will finally face Tyson Fury this year.

Before making a comeback, Joshua will now need to wait patiently and watch how the heavyweight division develops over the next months.

According to reports, Joshua earned $60 million from his fights against Dubois and Francis Ngannou on Riyadh Season shows last year.

Joshua wants to fight twice this year, Hearn stated, the first being in the summer and the second by the end of the year.

And that fight won’t take place next if Fury doesn’t come out of retirement shortly.

Other choices include the winner of Zhilei Zhang v Agit Kabayel, Martin Bakole, Deontay Wilder, or the winner of Dubois vs Joseph Parker.

Daniel Dubois has been in the ring with both Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua, and may be again soon.

The young Brit’s first world title tilt came against Usyk in August of 2023 after the Ukrainian had taken three of the four major belts from Joshua and defended them in a rematch.

Dubois tried to impose himself on the southpaw champion but was largely unsuccessful save for a moment in the fifth round when he would drop Usyk. It was immediately ruled a low blow and Usyk was given ample time to recover before getting back into his rhythm and scoring his first stoppage in three fights. Dubois was put down in both the eighth and ninth before failing to stand for the referee’s count.

While Usyk went on to become undisputed champion with a win over Tyson Fury, Dubois bounced back with wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, fighting himself into a position to hold the interim IBF belt and subsequently the full title when Usyk vacated it.

His first defence came against Joshua at Wembley Stadium, and the 28-year-old would retain his strap with an assured and destructive performance that saw him drop ‘AJ’ three times before the fifth round stoppage. Joshua did land a few heavy shots of his own in an attempt to turn the tide, one of which Dubois says felt like a ‘bomb going off.’

Despite that, in a recent feature with the Ring Magazine ‘DDD’ said Tyson Fury, who he has only sparred, hits harder than Joshua and that Usyk hits harder than Fury. A surprising outcome given ‘AJ’ is known as the knockout puncher between the three.

Dubois puts his belt on the line against Joseph Parker this weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a win all but guaranteeing him a rematch with Usyk for the undisputed championship.

Eddie Hearn has opened up on whether or not Anthony Joshua is thinking about retirement as he plots a way back to the top of boxing.

AJ has suffered several high-profile defeats in the last few years after his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk were followed up by battering from Daniel Dubois last September.

That fight saw Joshua relinquish the IBF heavyweight title after he sunk to the canvas in the fifth round at Wembley.

That has given both Joshua – and his promoter Hearn – the challenge of finding a path to rebuild the 35-year-old’s reputation or else call it quits.

A blockbuster all-British bout against Tyson Fury was tipped for some point this year but the Gypsy King, reeling from his own Usyk defeats, retired from the sport last month to close that avenue to redemption for Joshua.

Fury’s decision led to speculation that Joshua may follow suit and also retire. And Hearn admitted that day may not be too far away.

“Not yet, but there will come the time, “ Hearn said. “Those kinds of conversations really come from behind the scenes from how somebody is performing in camp.

“In camp, if you haven’t got it anymore, it’ll be apparent. The injuries will get worse, you’ll get hurt in sparring against somebody you shouldn’t be getting hurt against.

Anthony Joshua

“You’re not sharp and when that moment comes, that’s when the team will say  ‘AJ’s not looking good you know’ and that’s the moment when I will probably have a conversation with him.

“For the Daniel Dubois fight, the camp was great. He was super sharp and we were really confident going into that fight, coming off four good wins, two really good wins, and we thought he would win.

“We knew how dangerous the fight was, so he comes out, has a terrible start, never really recovers, comes back into the fight a little bit and gets chinned. No problem.”

“If camp had gone really poorly and we were unsure, I think that conversation may have been brought forward.”

So, with retirement off the cards for the short-term then who are the duo eyeing up for Joshua’s next bout? The answer to that will become clear after this coming weekend.

Dubois will defend his title on February 22 in Saudi Arabia when he takes on Kiwi Joseph Parker. Hearn and AJ’s plan is to fight the victor – whoever that may be.

Hearn told BetFred : “Right now because Tyson Fury is retired, so put him to the side, the number one choice for AJ is to fight for the world heavyweight title. That’s 99 per cent of what he wants to do and if that’s Daniel Dubois, no problem. If that’s Joseph Parker, no problem.

“If AJ turns around and says that’s what he’s doing, then it’s done. It’s not me saying he can’t fight Daniel Dubois. Some people say he shouldn’t have fought Oleksandr Usyk. What are you talking about?

“It’s your job, he’s the mandatory, what do you want to do? Give your belt up and have all that criticism that you ducked Usyk and you vacated your belt to do it?”

Anthony Joshua is training hard to stay ready for his return to the ring in 2025. The former two-time heavyweight champion (28-4, 25 KOs) still hasn’t picked out an opponent for his next fight, but it’s believed he’s waiting for Tyson Fury to announce that he’s coming out of retirement, writes boxingnews24.com.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says Fury is the one they want, but they’re also interested in a rematch with IBF champion, Daniel Dubois.  Joshua, 35, wants to avenge his fifth-round loss to Dubois from last summer on September 21st. The two fought in front of a big crowd at Wembley Stadium, in London. Losing in front of all those fans was a disappointment for AJ, as he let them down. If Fury doesn’t unretire soon, Joshua will need to decide whether to continue to wait or stay busy fighting one of the top contenders.

Deontay Wilder is another guy who Hearn is interested in fighting Joshua. Andy Ruiz Jr. is interested in a trilogy with Joshua, and that’s a fight that would attract a lot of interest.     Joshua’s options are Daniel Dubois, Tyson Fury,  Andy Ruiz Jr, Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora,  Dillian Whyte and Martin Bakole.
Hearn hasn’t sounded excited about Joshua fighting Bakole. It could be that he feels that the fight wouldn’t sell to the UK market because Bakole isn’t well-known to casual boxing fans. It’s also a risky fight for Joshua because he’s coming off a four-knockdown, fifth-round KO loss to Dubois.

Fighting a dangerous puncher like Bakole in his first fight back sounds like a bad idea. The 39-year-old Wilder is also a risky fight, and he might be more trouble than he’s worth at this stage of his career. It’s too late in the game for a fight between Joshua and Deontay to be worth pursuing.

Anthony Joshua has begun training again for the first time since losing to Daniel Dubois.

The British heavyweight has yet to pencil in his next showdown in the squared circle, having been brutally dropped three times and stopped by Daniel Dubois in September.

He is eyeing a ring return in 2025, and has been linked with a number of fights including against Martin Bakole.

Joshua is expected to wait for the winner of this weekend’s clash between Dubois and Joseph Parker before making his next move.

But in the meantime, AJ has decided to begin working out again.

He posted two videos of training footage, one on the beach shirtless where he still looked in impressive shape.

And his workout continued by night, as he then posted another video of himself boxing against a gazebo, not afraid to use any objects he can.

Fans were trying to spot any clues as to his current condition and potential next fight.

And they all noticed he was working on his defence while throwing punches, keeping his hands firmly up.

One wrote: “He’s keeping his hands up, needs to make sure he does that in his next fight.”

Another added: “Yeah now he needs to keep them up, especially so he doesn’t visit hook city.”

A viewer agreed: “He needs to keep working on his defence to protect his chin.”

Other fans gave a more optimistic take, with one writing: “3x heavyweight champion coming soon.”

One even concluded: “He looks in great shape, he’s going to return with a win.”

But others were less so, with one writing: “Bakole beats him.”

A viewer even joked: “He needs to train his chin instead.”

Despite his defeat, Joshua is still viewed as a leading heavyweight and will be hoping to return into the world title mix this year.

He was first keen to face Tyson Fury in a two-fight deal which was expected to be his main pursuit in 2025.

But the ‘Gypsy King’ retired and appeared to put a damaging blow to Joshua’s chances of settling his rivalry.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has now suggested the winner of Dubois vs Parker will now be the primary target.

Anthony Joshua

“Right now because Tyson Fury is retired, so put him to the side, the number one choice for AJ is to fight for the world heavyweight title,” Hearn told Betfred.

“That’s 99 per cent of what he wants to do and if that’s Daniel Dubois, no problem. If that’s Joseph Parker, no problem.

“If AJ turns around and says that’s what he’s doing, then it’s done.

“It’s not me saying he can’t fight Daniel Dubois. Some people say he shouldn’t have fought Oleksandr Usyk. What are you talking about?

“It’s your job, he’s the mandatory, what do you want to do?

“Give your belt up and have all that criticism that you ducked Usyk and you vacated your belt to do it?”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have not often seen eye to eye but seem to agree on who will win the upcoming IBF heavyweight world title fight.

Fury retired in January after a second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk left him without any belts. The Ukrainian also handed the same fate to Joshua when the pair fought in back-to-back contests in 2021 and 2022.

As such, many fans hoped the two British rivals would come together for a final legacy-defining contest, but with Fury now having walked away from the sport, that is off the table.

Instead, the next big fight on the horizon is an IBF title defence for the in-form Daniel Dubois against the equally in-form Joseph Parker on February 22.

Between them, these two have beaten Joshua, Zhilei Zhang, Deontay Wilder, Fillip Hrgvic and Jarrell Miller in their last few contests.

When he was with Turki Alalshikh recently, Joshua was asked by the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority who he was backing on the contest and he went with his former victim Parker to come out on top and establish himself as a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Meanwhile, when speaking to TNT Sports, ‘The Gypsy King’ was asked the same questions and answered the same way.

“I’ve got to go with my old pal, Joseph Parker.”

Fury and Parker have been in camp many times together, and he and ‘AJ’ are not the only ones backing the New Zealander to come to on top with former British title challenger David Adeleye also leaning towards him.

For the winner, a potential undisputed bout with Usyk awaits.

Nigerian-born British two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly exploring alternative options for his next fight while Tyson Fury remains in retirement.

Fury, a 36-year-old British former heavyweight champion, shocked the boxing world by announcing his retirement following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua is coming off a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Dubois is set to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight champion title against Joseph Parker next Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Joshua will be watching closely, with the possibility of facing the winner as he aims to become a three-time heavyweight champion.

Despite Joshua’s knockout loss to Dubois in September, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn dismissed speculation about Joshua’s retirement. He noted that Joshua remains dedicated and sharp in training, indicating that retirement discussions are premature.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury

“Right now, because Tyson Fury is retired—so put him to the side for one second—the number one choice for AJ is to fight for the world heavyweight title,” promoter Eddie Hearn told BetFred.

“That’s 99 per cent of what he wants to do, and if that’s Daniel Dubois, no problem. If that’s Joseph Parker, no problem. If AJ decides that’s the fight he wants, then it’s done.”

Hearn also dismissed any speculation that Anthony Joshua could soon join Fury in retirement.

“Not yet, but that time will come,” he said. “Those conversations usually happen based on how someone performs in camp. If you haven’t got it anymore, it becomes apparent—injuries get worse, you struggle in sparring, and you lose sharpness. That’s when the team will have a conversation.”

Former heavyweight boxer David Price has backed Anthony Joshua to win another world title despite the British-Nigerian’s devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua, 35, suffered a setback in his bid to become a three-time world heavyweight champion when he was stopped by Dubois, but Price believes the former champion can bounce back.

“I think winning another version of a world title is definitely doable for him. I think that’s the best outcome he could wish for. Being undisputed or unified is probably asking a bit too much, but you just don’t know what the future holds,” Price told Mirror Fighting.

Prior to the Dubois defeat, Joshua had been on an impressive four-fight winning streak, defeating Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

Price praised Joshua’s mental fortitude and ability to overcome setbacks, comparing it to his own experience.

“I know from experience what a loss can do. My first defeat ruined me, I couldn’t forgive myself for how I lost my first fight. Joshua has the strength to just move forward,” he said.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has outlined seven potential opponents for his next fight following Tyson Fury’s retirement announcement. The options include Martin Bakole, Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, Agit Kabayel, Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker.

Price also highlighted Joshua’s impact on British boxing, particularly his ability to sell out major stadiums.

“He changed the landscape for all British fighters. There wasn’t such a thing as regular stadium fights until he appeared, they were far and few between,” Price added.

“He sold out Wembley and Cardiff. Without Joshua, that sort of thing wouldn’t be happening. You look at the recordings of Frank Bruno fights in stadiums where it looks empty; Joshua and the combination of him with Sky Sports at the time just got so many people interested and brought new fans into the sport.”
