Mayweather doubts Gervonta Davis against Manny Pacquiao: “After seeing Tank’s performance…”

Manny Pacquiao refuses to stay retired and rumors about his return to the ring are growing stronger. At 46 years of age, the former eight-division world champion seems determined to come back in force, and not just for one last fight, as was originally supposed.

This was confirmed by the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC)Mauricio Sulaiman, who revealed that ‘Pacman’ will face Mario Barrios for the welterweight title on July 19

The announcement surprised both fans and analysts, who are now wondering what will happen if Pacquiao wins the belt, as it is not known how much longer he could remain active or who his future rivals would be.

However, during a press conference in Las Vegas, Pacquiao said he will make decisions about his future after the fight with Barrios, leaving the door open to the option of facing big names such as Ryan GarciaDevin Haney and even Gervonta Davis.

When is Manny Pacquiao vs Gervonta Davis fight?

This last possibility has especially caught the attention of fans, who are already speculating about a fight between the Filipino veteran and the undefeated Davis, known as “Tank”.

With the growing expectation for Pacquiao’s returnJeff Mayweather, former boxer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather, spoke about a possible duel between Pacquiao and Davis, raising the question of the agreed weight.

“What weight are they going to fight at? I think that’s going to influence a lot. Isn’t Pacquiao going to fight Barrios at 147 pounds or something like that?”Jeff asked, stressing that Gervonta Davis has never fought above super lightweight.

Davis, currently at the peak of his career, would be the clear betting favorite due to his youth and fitness. However, Pacquiao, despite the inactivity and age difference, as he is 16 years older than Davis, has a long experience on the big stage.

Who is the favorite in Pacquiao vs Davis?

Despite the favoritism towards Davis, Jeff Mayweather believes that the outlook is not as clear as it seems, especially after the American’s most recent performance

In March, Gervonta Davis had a tough fight against Lamont Roach Jr., which ended in a majority draw, leaving doubts about his performance.

“I think most would have thought that Pacquiao would have no chance, if it wasn’t for that bad performance by Tank,” said Mayweather“After that fight, believe me, there will be a lot of people who will say that Manny Pacquiao has a chance,” he concluded.

For now, nothing is confirmed, but the possible return of Pacquiao and his willingness to face the best of today is one of the most relevant topics in the boxing world.

Bill Haney uses Floyd Mayweather to defend his son Devin and does not rule out a fight between them

This comparison comes at a time when Devin Haney has been criticised for his fighting style, which is considered by some to be unexciting. However, Bill Haney argues that, like Mayweather, his son prioritises defence and strategy over aggression, which has been key to his professional success.

The relationship between Bill Haney and Floyd Mayweather has been tense in recent times. In April 2024, the two were involved in a heated argument on an Instagram live broadcast, where they exchanged insults and disagreements about their respective boxers’ careers.

Bill Haney even went so far as to claim that a sparring session between Devin and Mayweather was what motivated the latter’s retirement.

These tensions have fueled speculation about the possibility of a showdown between Devin Haney and Floyd Mayweather, although the latter is officially retired from professional boxing

A fight between Devin Haney and Floyd Mayweather?

Although Floyd Mayweather has declared his retirement from professional boxing, he has not completely ruled out the possibility of returning to the ring for exhibition fights. In this context, Bill Haney has hinted that a showdown between his son Devin Haney and Mayweather could be an interesting option, especially considering the history and tensions between the two.

A fight between Devin Haney and Floyd Mayweather would be a major event in the boxing world, attracting the attention of fans and media alike. However, at the moment, there are no official confirmations about such a fight taking place.

Sugar Ray Leonard Has No Doubt Who Was Better Between Prime Floyd Mayweather And Manny Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao faced each other in the ‘Fight Of The Century’ ten years ago.

After years of speculation, the former pound-for-pound stars locked horns on Saturday May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to battle it out for the WBC, WBA and WBO world welterweight titles.

Despite the hype surrounding the monumental showdown, the fight itself failed to live up to its extraordinary expectations on the night, with fans and pundits alike expressing their disappointment. After an underwhelming twelve rounds, Mayweather was declared the winner via unanimous decision to unify three of the four welterweight titles.

With the boxing world often divided on who was actually a better fighter between prime versions of Mayweather and Pacquiao, the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard has spoken out and revealed who he believes was the greater fighter.

Speaking to Dontaes Boxing Nation, Leonard made no mistake in giving praise to ‘Money’ Mayweather, ranking him as a better fighter than Pacquiao.

“Fundamentally speaking, Floyd’s on top, he’s sound. I love Pacquiao, he’s been blessed with incredible hand speed and power as he moved up in weight, they both have been blessed with rare qualities.”

Mayweather drew the curtain on his career just two years after he got the better of Pacquiao, defeating MMA legend Conor McGregor in their huge crossover battle in 2017, retiring from boxing with a perfect unbeaten record of 50-0.

‘Pac-Man’ went on to announce his retirement from boxing in 2021, but has recently confirmed he will be making a sensational return to the sport on July 19 when he faces WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas.

Undisputed champion Terence Crawford names Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. as his all-time favorites.

Terence Crawford, widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, recently opened up about the fighters who inspired him – and at the top of that list are Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr.

Crawford has claimed world titles in four different weight classes and became undisputed champion in two divisions – an achievement few in boxing history can match. Now, he’s preparing for a blockbuster showdown against Canelo Álvarez on September 13 for the undisputed super middleweight crown. With 41 wins and 31 knockouts under his belt, Crawford is known for his slick movement and killer instinct inside the ring.

True boxing idol

While speaking with fans in Sydney, Australia, Crawford was asked which fighters he admired growing up. Though he admitted he never had a true boxing idol, he was quick to name two legends he looked up to.

“Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather,” Crawford said. “I liked Roy because we had so much in common – he liked fishing, I love fishing; he loved dogs, I love dogs; he loved basketball, and so do I. I really relate to him, so Roy has always been, and will always be, my favorite fighter.”

Mastery in the ring

As for Mayweather, Crawford praised the undefeated champion’s relentless drive and mastery in the ring:

“Floyd Mayweather’s work ethic and what he did inside the ring – not outside of it – that’s what made him special to me.”

Even the best have their heroes – and for Crawford, greatness recognizes greatness.

Terence Crawford includes Floyd Mayweather in list of favorite fighters.

Terence Crawford is currently one of the best boxers in the world. He is high up the pound-for-pound rankings after capturing world titles in four different weight classes, and has held the undisputed title in two weight divisions.

Crawford is set to fight Canelo Alvarez next on September 13 for the undisputed super middleweight title. He is an elusive fighter who has tremendous finishing instincts and out of his 41 career wins, 31 have come by way of knockout.

Fans might wonder who Crawford appreciated as a fighter growing up. ‘Bud’ claimed he never had a boxing hero, but when asked who his favorite fighter was, he named Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr.

While speaking with fans in Sydney, Australia, Crawford said:

Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather. I liked Roy because we had so much in common. He liked the fish, I love the fish. He loved the dogs, I love the dogs. He loved Basketball, I love Basketball. I relate a lot to Roy, so that’s why Roy, was, will, and forever be my favorite fighter. Floyd Mayweather’s work ethic, the things that he did in the ring, not outside the ring.

Some fans relate Terence Crawford’s fighting style to that of Floyd Mayweather. Apart from being a knockout artist, he is tremendous in defense and is always on the hunt for the finish.

A fighter of his caliber is must-watch TV, and Crawford might finally meet his match when he squares off against Canelo Alvarez later in the year, making the event a must-watch spectacle for boxing fans.

Floyd Mayweather’s biggest protege right now, Curmel Moton, continued his winning run during a Premier Boxing Champions fight card that took place at an event GIVEMESPORT attended inside the Michelob Ultra Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday, the 31st of May.

This weekend, he continued to add to his growing name in the sport by easily dispatching his lightweight opponent, Renny Viamonte.

Curmel Moton Remains One of The Next Big Things in Boxing

There remains question marks as to whether he could be the next Floyd Mayweather, or Gervonta Davis

In the opening round, Viamonte caught him with a hook shot but Moton showed he had punch resistance to go with his impressive attacking instincts as he weathered the shot with ease. Moton kept his gloves high in the second, sprung from defense to attack with his rhythmic movement, and sought to overpower his opponent with bruising combinations.

Since Moton burst onto the scene, he has accelerated through the weight classes and appears as stocky as ever. A question mark could be raised about whether his power and knockout percentage would remain at lightweight, as it had at lighter weight classes, as, in this fight — the eighth of his career — he had to defend himself from powerful blows coming from Viamonte, who took no second invitation to showboat and taunt Moton, while thudding Viamonte in response, but to not as great avail as he had when he weighed, and performed, in the 128 to 132-pound range.

Ultimately, it wasn’t long before Moton’s power told the story of the fight. He landed solid right hands to the jaw, left hooks to the body, and punches in bunches that were thrown with bad intentions as the young American sought to wipe the smile from his opponent’s face at the end of each of the final rounds. Had the fight been scheduled for 10 rounds, or 12, it’s likely Moton would have been able to get Viamonte out of there, but his opponent held on and survived the distance.

Though Moton did not add another knockout to his reel, he’ll have likely learned more from this fight than he would have in his previous bouts.

Floyd Mayweather’s Uncle Stirs Controversy With Canelo Alvarez And Manny Pacquiao PED Comments

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle makes PED claim on Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao.

Canelo Alvarez puts his undisputed super middleweight title on the line against Terence Crawford on September 13. Many consider the fight to be one of the greatest of the modern era.

However, Alvarez’s camp has recently come under the spotlight afterJaime Munguia, Canelo’s former foe, and a fighter who trains with the same coach, Eddy Reynoso, has tested positive for a banned substance.

Canelo went through a similar controversy back in 2018, and other fighters who has previously trained under Reynoso, like Ryan Garcia, have also been through the same. Many are now skeptical of Reynoso and his camp due to the repeated incidents that defy the law of probability.

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, has now pointed his finger directly at Reynoso’s most famous pupil, Canelo Alvarez. He believes the substantial financial benefit of fighting the Mexican makes opponents avoid asking Canelo for drug testing.

Speaking to FightHype, Jeff Mayweather said:

I think one way to stop it is that the commissions need to do their job. But, the one thing about boxing is this- boxing is a business. And the person that makes the money, can do whatever they want to do. Because the other person has got to fight them, that is going to get their biggest payday.

Aside from saying that nobody challenges Canelo on drug testing because of the potential paydays, he also added that Floyd Mayweather made Manny Pacquiao get tested ahead of their fight because he was bigger than the Filipino.

Right now, Canelo is the man in boxing. He is the man in boxing. Whoever fights him, is not going to make him test. Because, they’re going to make the biggest payday of their life. But, if they say, you on something, and I want you to get tested, you’re not going to get no fight. So, that’s the same thing that happened many years ago when my nephew, Floyd, fought Manny Pacquiao. He was the only one that could say, ‘Manny Pacquiao, you gotta get tested before you fight me.’ And that was because he was bigger than Manny Pacquiao was.

Manny Pacquiao Reveals The One Opponent Who Gave Him His Hardest Fight

Manny Pacquiao has revealed the one opponent who gave him his toughest fight in boxing, and he shunned Floyd Mayweather — one of his career rivals — when providing his answer.

The Filipino fighting icon rampaged his way through multiple weight classes, sharing the ring with a plethora of all-time great boxers, to put a stamp on a Hall-of-Fame resume. The International Boxing Hall of Fame, of which GIVEMESPORT’s combat editor and reporter Alan Dawson is a voting member, enshrines Pacquiao into its hall this summer, around the same time he’ll return to the ring, aged 46, to attempt to wrest the WBC welterweight world championship from Mario Barrios’s waist.

Fights 72 32
Wins 62 29
Losses 8 2
Draws 2 1

Had Pacquiao fought Barrios in his prime, he would have no doubt dispatched of him with ease, having beaten the likes of Erik Morales, Juan Manual Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar de la Hoya, and Ricky Hatton, among others. But, as Pacquiao said this week, there is one fighter in particular who he believes gave him all kinds of hell.

Manny Pacquiao’s Toughest Test

Hall-of-Fame fighter reveals trickets opponent he fought

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

Describing his ability to box as “a gift from God,” Pacquiao told reporters, including Elie Seckbach and Fight Hype, when training in Los Angeles, that “the bigger one,” meaning Antonio Margarito, was his hardest fight.

Renowned for an aggressive, pressure-style of fighting, and his durability, Margarito had beaten Joshua Clottey and Miguel Cotto leading up to his fight with Pacquiao.

Picking Margarito as his toughest test is perhaps a surprising pick considering his wars with numerous Mexican legends, and trying to figure out the technical prowess of Mayweather, yet Margarito, at 5-foot-11 and being so much bigger than Pacquiao as a junior middleweight, meant Manny had to negate his opponent’s size.

There was also an added mental test, as Pacquiao was incensed at the time by Margarito’s apparent mocking of Pacquiao’s beloved long-time trainer Freddie Roach, who has Parkinson’s disease. Margarito was seen on video impersonating Roach by shaking his hands while he had a crick in his neck. This never sat well with Pacquiao, who inflicted a brutal beating of Margarito in the ring, and injured his eye so badly that it took a long while to recover from the damage.

That was almost 15 years ago. Pacquiao returns to the ring in July against Barrios atop a PBC on Prime Video PPV event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather recently denied that he’s broke.

50 Cent is back to trolling Floyd Mayweather after he denied rumors that he’s bankrupt and announced that he’s filing a lawsuit against Business Insider.

Fif, who has repeatedly butt heads with his former friend, reposted a clip of Mayweather speaking about his lawsuit and the bankruptcy rumors in a since-deleted Instagram post. Alongside the clip, he wrote, “Well that case is going nowhere because you didn’t do the deal champ … He must have named the writer separately to make him have to pay his own legal team. Champ mad.”

Mayweather sued Business Insider and journalist David Geiger earlier this month after the publication reported that there was “no evidence” the boxer had purchased a 62-building Manhattan apartment portfolio. In the lawsuit, he accused Geiger of embarking “on a campaign of harassment and defamation, characterized by aggressive and misleading journalism that not only distorts the truth, but seems driven by a deep-seated bias against Mr. Mayweather’s success.”

As he explained on a panel for TheRealDeal’s NYC Forum 2025 discussing real estate, he has never sued a media outlet before. “Someone is going out there putting lies on my name, putting lies on me and my team, hurting my business,” Mayweather said. He also denied that he’s broke and boasted that he has two private jets and owns “a hundred buildings.”

When Mayweather claimed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he owns “upwards of 100 buildings,” 50 Cent cast doubt. “If there safe to say, I should say LOL All cap detected,” he wrote. “Champ retarded anybody buy 60 buildings in New York would make the news. STUPID!”

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle not a fan of Manny Pacquiao getting a title shot against Mario Barrios.

Manny Pacquiao is set to make his return to the boxing ring in July, taking on Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. This will be Pacquiao’s first professional fight since his 2021 defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

Pacquiao hasn’t won a fight since his 2019 match against Keith Thurman. ‘Pacman’ is a legend of the sport, but he’s now 46, and making his return immediately into a world championship fight has raised eyebrows.

One person who has criticized the decision to give Pacquiao an immediately title shot is Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff. And in an interview on The Mayweather Channel, he spoke out.

Before I even talk about the fight, it seems that boxing has changed. Because this guy’s been retired for what, three or four years.

He continued:

He’s done nothing to be fighting for a world title. I don’t understand why he’s even fighting for a world title.

He was then asked whether it’s similar to Floyd Mayweather fighting Conor McGregor in 2017, to which he replied:

Don’t get me wrong, he’s fighting a world championship in boxing. He’s not fighting someone like Conor, he was whole different breed. He was just the number one guy in the UFC.

When further asked about Pacquiao, Jeff Mayweather added:

He’s done nothing actually to be fighting for a world title other than his name or what he’s done in the past. I mean his name is legendary but you still have guys that are fighting right now to get that number 1 spot. And you have some guy that hasn’t fought in so many years that just jumps up and takes your spot and may win a world title.
