When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and that’s exactly what Suni Lee has done. Her journey is known to all gymnastics fans. It’s been a wild ride, filled with incredible highs and extremely tough lows. After winning the all-around gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, she went through a rough patch with post-Olympic depression and the pressures of college. On top of that, she was hit with the news of two incurable kidney diseases that forced her to step back from training. But through all those challenges, her Olympic teammates Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles, and Jade Carey were right there with her, supporting her and helping her find joy again.

Suni Lee recently opened up in an exclusive interview with Caroline Fenton, which Yahoo Sports released on October 17. The interview, titled “Suni Lee on Olympic Return, Supporting Jordan Chiles, & Meeting Beyoncé!” was all about her friendships in gymnastics. When the host asked about her relationships with teammates like Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, Suni talked about how important it is to lift each other up, especially during tough times.

Suni Lee shared, “We have the most fun relationship, especially when it comes to the gym. I mean, outside of it, we are like really, really close, and it’s just so easy to talk to them. It’s so nice to have them as well because we’re all going through the same thing; we all feel the same, especially when it comes to competing. Like, we have so much to relate to, so having them—they’re kind of like my mentors, my guides because they have a lot more experience than me. So having them was really nice, and I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

Winning the gold medal in the competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was a mix of achieving a lifelong dream and facing unexpected challenges for Suni Lee. In 2021, a young 18-year-old athlete thrust into the limelight along with renowned Olympic champions such as Nadia Comaneci and Simone Biles. Lee opened up about her battle with imposter syndrome while navigating through difficulties before making it to the Paris Olympics despite grappling with a kidney-related ailment that had jeopardized her comeback previously.

Teammates Biles and Jordan Chiles recognized her self-doubt and encouraged her to embrace her greatness during a heart-to-heart conversation before the women’s team final. “They were just like, ‘You need to walk out like the reigning Olympic champion,” she recalled. After Suni Lee’s heartbreaking fall during the balance beam final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, her teammate Simone Biles was one of the first to rush to her side, offering comfort and encouragement. Following a tough landing off the beam during the final aerial series, Suni hugged her coach, Jess Graba, before finding Biles, who greeted her with a warm smile and a supportive hug. But the best moment was in early June.
After Suni Lees’s first vault at the Xfinity, U.S. gymnastics championships didn’t go as planned with one and a half twists of two and a shaky landing due to being far back on the board; she had a heart-to-heart chat with Simone Biles that turned things around for her confidence wise when they crossed paths in a tunnel swiftly after that moment. Lee expressed gratitude for Biles, saying, “She knew that I needed help in the moment.”

Biles encouraged her to “breathe, do what you normally do, and remember you can do hard things.” With Biles by her side, Suni hit her routine on the uneven bars, tying for the highest score of the night. “I don’t think I could have done it without her,” Lee said, ultimately finishing fourth in the all-around—her first time competing in all four events since being diagnosed with two kidney diseases in early 2023. But it wasn’t just them helping her; Suni Lee always stood by her teammates when they needed her the most.

When the chips were down, Jordan Chiles leaned on Suni Lee and Simone Biles for support

Jordan Chiles faced a tough blow when her bronze medal in the women’s artistic floor exercise at the Paris Olympics was stripped after the Romanian gymnastics team challenged her final score. This decision came after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in favor of Romanian gymnast Ana Maria Barbosu, who claimed that an inquiry filed by the U.S. team regarding Chiles’s score was submitted four seconds late, violating the one-minute deadline set by the International Gymnastics Federation. As a result, Chiles’s score was reduced, leading to Barbosu being awarded the bronze medal.

Following the news, Chiles announced that she would be stepping away from social media for her mental health, stating, “I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health. Thank you.” But her teammates stood by her side at that time.

Suni Lee has been a strong supporter for Chiles during this difficult time. She acknowledged how challenging the situation is for her teammate, saying, “It’s very hard, especially being an athlete. You work your whole life for that, and it’s just crazy how it can be taken away from you.” Lee made it a point to reach out regularly to check on Chiles, emphasizing her willingness to be there without overwhelming her.

Even Simone Biles also stepped in to offer encouragement, reminding Chiles, “You have to feel all these feels. Don’t let these emotions stop you. This will be the healthiest way to get all of this out.” Biles maintained their connection through video calls and messages. This support highlights the strong bonds among these athletes, showing that they stand by each other in tough times.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens can add darts “champs” to their already impressive résumés.

The Olympic gymnast and Chicago Bears safety enjoyed a night out with a game of darts that included a skillful shot to the bullseye and a celebration routine.

Upon winning their game of darts, Biles, 27, and Owens, 29, celebrated with their own unique and “crazy” handshake, which included slapping their hands back and forth before sealing their shake with a kiss.

“Send em home mad,” Owens wrote on his Instagram Stories on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a close-up of the dart thrown right into the bullseye. “When you and ya lady are the dart champs,” he added with heart and shrugging emojis.

Owens and Biles first met in March 2020 on the exclusive dating app Raya and began dating not long after.

“He would say I slid into his DMs,” Biles told the Wall Street Journal in 2021. “I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi … and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”

Owens, meanwhile, didn’t know who Biles was at first. “I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked,” he told Texas Monthly in June 2021.

Throughout their relationship, they’ve been supportive of each other’s athletic careers. Biles attends Owens’ football games. In December 2021, she cheered Owens on when he made the first NFL start of his career while on the Houston Texans.

Meanwhile, the NFL player attended the 2024 Paris Olympics to cheer on his wife where the most decorated gymnast of all time took home three gold and one silver medal.

After dating for two years, Biles and Owen got engaged in February 2022 and tied the knot in April 2023 in a small courthouse wedding celebration in Texas.

The power couple celebrated their love with family and friends again in Mexico the following month.

The last three weeks have been a joy as a gymnastics fan in the USA. Watching Simone Biles and her squadmates for the second edition of the Gold Over America Tour has been scintillating, and now the prodigal daughter has returned home. On October 19, the GOAT will be heading to Houston, the 7x Olympic champ’s hometown, and understandably, the excitement to see what the gang has in store is high. And Biles may have a special recruit to mark the occasion.

Considering how the 27-year-old will be performing in her native city for the first time since her electrifying Parisian success, her husband Jonathan Owens would want to be present at her side for the big day. But he may end up doing more than just cheering for the gymnasts, or that’s what Biles seems to have in her mind.

In her recent Instagram story, the most decorated gymnast of all time shared her husband’s enhanced efforts to learn the tricks of her trade. In the social media update, the football safety can be seen trying his hands at the parallel bars as Brody Malone looks on with a candid smile on his face. Seeing how the NFL star is up for new things, Biles even makes a special request to Athleta.

Should we add him to the cast?” Biles ponders and it’s not difficult to understand how she’d be delighted to have her husband perform alongside her in the pop-styled show at the Toyota Center on Saturday. Just a few days ago, the gymnastics icon was spotted supervising the Houston Rockets mascot, Clutch, as he dished out his best gymnastics moves. So who better to judge Owens’ skills as a gymnast and consider taking him on the roster than his wife herself?

On the other hand, this might be the ideal time to find out if the NFL star’s notes come in handy. At the Xfinity Gymnastics Championships and the Olympic Team Trials earlier this year, Biles’ man was seen taking notes from the stands, making many fans ponder what he was up to. The community speculated that Owens was thinking about a career switch after seeing his wife in action, even though he was initially of the opinion that gymnastics wasn’t that hard. While he was quick to rectify his misconception, now would be a good time to see if Jonathan has what it takes. But if he indeed gets his shot, he will be in good company!

Simone Biles

Simone Biles’ new gymnastics recruit, Jonathan Owens, could step into the GOAT tour and fit right in!

This year’s Gold Over America Tour is the first time that male gymnasts were introduced to the roster alongside their female colleagues. “Bringing the guys on board was designed to show what men’s gymnastics has to offer,” Biles said about the decision and noted how it was done while dabbling with ideas about how to bring more exposure to gymnastics. She also went on to state how the move has been met with vehement enthusiasm from the fans: “…the outcome has been absolutely amazing. And you have the kids in the crowd chanting ‘Ian! Ian!’ ‘Fredrick! Fredrick!’ and that’s just so cool,” she said.

Along with Yul Moldauer, Brody Malone, and Paul Juda, the women’s contingent of the Team USA and Gold Over America Tour has also been mesmerizing, to say the least. From Biles to Joscelyn Roberson and from Hezly Rivera to Jordan Chiles, every athlete has been at the top of their game in the show and is showing why gymnastics deserves a larger audience in the country and beyond. Their high-flying action even roped in tennis legend Serena Williams in Duluth last Sunday, and you should consider following suit too. So how do you think Owens would fare outside of the football field if he’s given the chance? Tell us in the comments below!

After a great run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles and Team USA are having a blast with their Gold Over America Tour. While Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens are busy with their duties, when the Bears’ safety finally had some free time, he chose to spend it with his wife and her team!

A few days back, the couple shared a heartwarming moment as Owens surprised Biles during a break from his NFL season. After returning from a successful trip to London with the Chicago Bears, Owens wasted no time in making his way back to the States to be with his wife. Biles, in the meantime, was buckling up for her next tour stop. Yet, her gravity-defying routines could not stop her from spending some much-needed downtime together.

He made sure to spoil his wife with luxurious gifts and her comfort food. Now, in a new update, we got to see the NFL player spend time with other gymnasts from Team USA. In an Instagram story shared by Biles, we saw Yul Moldauer and Paul Juda playing football with Owens. As he threw the ball, both the gymnasts ran to catch it. “The boys warming up,” wrote Biles. But that’s not the end of it!

Yul Moldauer reposted the same story on IG and humorously wrote, “I got smoked.”

Further, Simone Biles also did not miss the opportunity to tease Owens about his newfound love for gymnastics, sharing a clip of him attempting a stunt on the parallel bars. “Should we get him to the cast?” Biles joked as Owens joined in the fun with his typical good humor.

Owens replied, reposting the video, “With the toe point 😂.” Well, it seems the football player is quite intrigued by gymnastics and loves learning more about it. Remember how in Paris, Owens, who was present to watch Biles perform, was busy noting down scores? He picked in from the gymnasts’ family members who usually do something similar. Additionally, he also wore his wife’s gold medal and while this action received criticism, Biles had his back.

Thus, Biles, while dominating the stage, also remains grounded by one constant: her love for Jonathan Owens.

Simone Biles & Jonathan Owens won’t let work affect their relationship!

The long-distance relationship due to work commitments has turned out to be a test of endurance for the couple. But they didn’t just take up the challenge but are passing it will flying colors.

It is the celebration of the simple joys of life that keeps them in love. So when Owens initially joined the GOAT tour, Biles was the happiest and took to her IG stories to write, “when hubby comes on tour.”

Recently, the couple’s reunion in St. Charles, Missouri, ahead of another tour performance, showcased how deeply they cherish their time together. Simone Biles couldn’t contain her excitement as she shared a glimpse of their reunion, waking up next to her husband with a heartfelt confession on Instagram. Biles wrote, “waking up next to you>>>>>”. And meeting after so long, Biles could not resist celebrating the moment with her favorite pizza.

While the couple spends a lot of time apart because of work commitments, Simone Biles is having a blast on the tour. With Team USA, she is not only relishing her success but also having a blast behind the scenes. Take for instance, how she perfected a skill that no one athlete could land.

The gymnasts tried a standing 1.5. Yul Moldauer, Joscely Roberson, Ian Gunther, and Casimir Schmidt couldn’t land as Biles did. And do you know what she said after being the only one to land a standing 1.5? “Imma try it on the beam. Just kidding!” Well, only Simone Biles can say something like, don’t you think?
