It’s the question fans can’t stop asking: Will Simone Biles return to the Olympics in 2028?

Biles won four more medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, boosting her total Olympic medal count to 11, good enough to make her the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history.

So, will she try to add to her legacy by hitting the mat again when the Summer Games take place in Los Angeles in 2028? What circumstances would need to be in place for that to happen?

“Life and death,” she told Sports Illustrated in its interview for naming her its Sportsperson of the Year. “Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”

Biles, who is married to Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, thinks enough may be enough in this instance.

“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences,” she said. “But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year feature on Biles points out that she doesn’t know the answer to that question at this time.

Biles may be the most successful gymnast in history, but she can’t comprehend all that she has accomplished.

“I don’t think the reality has set in of what I’ve exactly done in the sport,” she said. “I can see it, and I hear it from people, and I see a glimpse of it, but the full magnitude I don’t think I’ve realized just yet. I don’t think I’ll realize ’til maybe I retire and look back in a couple years like, Damn, she was good. Because I can see that, but I do it every day. So for me, it’s normal.”

What Simone Biles told Hoda Kotb about possibly retiring

After her Olympic run last August, Biles spoke live on TODAY with Hoda Kotb about her future in the sport and if she’s considering competing at the next Summer Games.

“You know, you never say never. The next Olympics is on home turf. So you just never know,” she said. “I’m just going to relax and see where life takes me.”

Simone Biles

Biles said as much after taking home a gold in the women’s vault individual final on Aug. 3.

“Never say never,” Biles said at a press conference. “Next Olympics are at home. So you just never know. I am getting really old.”

Though just about everyone who watched the Olympics is eager to see what awaits Biles down the line, the gymnast has also spoken out to share her thoughts on asking.

Biles said on X Aug. 4, “You guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics.”

“Let us soak up the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for,” she added.

Between the 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Games, Biles has accumulated 11 Olympic medals, seven of which are gold.

In Paris, Biles had a record-breaking run, becoming the most decorated Olympic American gymnast of all time after Team USA won gold in the team final July 30. The star athlete won gold again in the all-around final Aug. 1 and vault final Aug. 3.

All eyes were on the gymnast after she pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics that were held in 2021, citing “the twisties,” a mental phenomenon that affects a gymnast’s ability to perceive where he or she is in the air.

Since Biles’ unexpected withdrawal from events at those Summer Games, she’s been open about her mental health struggles, and credits therapy with her comeback.

“To do something that I’ve done forever and just not be able to do it because of everything I’ve gone through is really crazy because I love this sport so much,” Biles told TODAY in October 2021.

“It’s hard. I’m sorry. And I don’t think people understand the magnitude of what I go through, but for so many years to go through everything that I’ve gone through having a front, I’m proud of myself.”

The world’s gaze was on Simone Biles as fought to make Paris her redemption ground. And after the USA squad snagged that team gold, her spirit sure hit an all-time high. But then, came the day when Biles was meant to shine alone. This time, her own teammate Suni Lee was a competition, let alone the Brazilian superstar, Rebeca Andrade. Yes, this day was none other than the Paris all-around finals, the day when Biles’ comeback could have been a near miss.

The all-around finals in Paris mean the day Simone Biles, at 27, became the oldest winner of her sport’s blue-riband event for 72 years and the only third one in history to win it more than once. The finals also meant the day she pulled out her oh-so-expensive and chic ‘goat’ necklace, establishing her supremacy in the sport. However, had it not been for this one piece of advice she gave herself, all of this could have possibly been lost in a split second.

Simone Biles’ mantra to the Paris all-around success

As reported by Sports Illustrated, before stepping onto her third rotation for the night, the beam, Simone Biles took a steadying breath and whispered to herself an energizing mantra, “You kind of have to go up there and tell yourself, I’m a boss a** bi***.” She knew this would be a make-or-break rotation. After all, the first two rotations hadn’t exactly gone off without a hitch, and now the pressure was on her shoulders like a ton of bricks.

Biles had sure entered the Bercy Arena for her all-around finals with a set intent, she wanted that gold. And the way she kicked things off on the vault, it looked like she was on the right track. After all, she’d established a clear lead ahead of Andrade on the opening apparatus, the vault. A stunning Yurchenko double pike, the hardest vault in competitive gymnastics won her a 15.766, which was 0.666 ahead of the Brazilian.

But the next part is where things turned. Simone Biles lost the buffer points lead when she made an uncharacteristic mistake on the uneven bars that evening. Traditionally known as her ‘weakest’ discipline, Biles’ uneven bars routine looked quite rushed on the big day. Also, she put a lot of power and elevation into her Pak Salto to lower bar transition, which led her to bend her knees and earned her a deduction. As a result, a 13.733 was all she was left with.

 Simone Biles

This meant that the beam had to turn out near perfect, or else, Simone Biles would have to settle for a silver. She pulled off a beam routine that had a great difficulty level and bagged a 14.566 on the apparatus. This was despite two minor wobbles since her aerial series and clean landing on the dismount bridged the gap. As she flashed her ear-to-ear smile and blew kisses to the crowd, she knew, her advice to herself had worked wonders.

Well, the sight of Simone Biles advising herself is hardly a rare one. It happens quite often. And it did before she embarked upon another apparatus at the Paris Olympics. Turns out she’s truly big on positive self-talk!

Biles’ 3-word advice to herself

The pressure of the world was on Simone Biles’ shoulders as she entered the Bercy Arena for the Women’s Gymnastics Team qualification rounds at the Paris Olympics. The Americans had a point to prove, especially Biles who wanted to pen the ‘redemption’ chapter in her book. Thus, before the 27-year-old stepped onto her first event for the night, the beam, she uttered a classic 3-word advice to herself.

You got this,” was all she said. However, in 2016, she’d accepted that her motivational vocabulary also included mantras like ‘Confidence’ and ‘You have this,’ which she often tells herself before stepping onto the mats. And well, its a widely believed theory that speaking positively to oneself before high-pressure situations can help calm the nerves and limit the negativity. Looks like, that truly works out for America’s most decorated gymnast too! What do you think? Let us know below!

Don’t expect to see Simone Biles at the 2028 Olympic Games. In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, as she was named Sportsperson of the Year, Biles said it would be “greedy” to return to the Los Angeles Olympics for another run.

“Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again, and for what?” she told the publication. “I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”

“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences,” Biles added. “But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

Biles spoke on the Tonight Show about weighing her options back in September, shortly after returning from the Paris Games. “Everybody wants to know this question. I’m like, ‘Can’t I live?’” Biles told Fallon, laughing. “First, I’m getting older. 27 is a little bit old for a gymnast.”

Simone Biles

Biles is the first woman in U.S. Olympic gymnastics to win two all-around gold medals since Vera Čáslavská in 1968. The win added to her collection as the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast in history with nine medals. And at 27 years old, she is also the oldest woman to secure the all-around title since 1952.

Speaking to SI, the gymnast said she had yet to digest her true impact on the sport. “I can see it, and I hear it from people, and I see a glimpse of it, but the full magnitude I don’t think I’ve realized just yet,” Biles said. “I don’t think I’ll realize ’til maybe I retire and look back in a couple years like, Damn, she was good. Because I can see that, but I do it every day. So for me, it’s normal.”

Getting your wisdom teeth can be a painful affair. The very nature of how a wisdom tooth grows causes pain and discomfort. Even pulling them out can be much trickier than your regular visit to the dentist’s chamber. And that’s exactly what Simone Biles had to deal with in 2017 when she got her wisdom teeth removed less than a year after rising to stardom.

In July 2017, Simone and Adria Biles made the fateful trip to the dentist’s office. “Are you ready, lil nug? Getting her wisdom teeth out,” Adria Biles posted on social media while sitting in the waiting room with her sister. However, little did they know that the anesthetics used during the procedure would have the most hilarious effect on the then-four-time Olympic gold medalist.

The chaotic yet hilarious recovery of the Olympic gold medalist

Now, six years and three more Olympic gold medals later, the video that Adria Biles took of her sister has once again resurfaced on Instagram. The Instagram account Planet of Gymnastics posted the video of the Olympian regaining consciousness in the dentist’s chair while still fighting the effects of the anesthesia. However, what Simone Biles did while still delirious cracked up Adria Biles.

The eleven-time Olympic medalist’s sister couldn’t control her laughter as Biles tried to drive an imaginary car while lying down in the chair. “She rly said BEEP BEEP,” Planet of Gymnastics captioned the post. The fans couldn’t help but post laughing emoticons in the comments. However, what was truly interesting about the video was that Biles never hid it.

“Wisdom teeth – gone. Atleast I get to be home & catch up on some shows. PS: I have a funny video for y’all from this!!!” the defending world champion ‘tweeted’ on X (then Twitter). Shortly after giving a fair warning to her fans, Simone Biles posted the video. “Uhm here it is, I honestly have no words! Enjoy!!!!! Hope it makes you laugh!!!!” wrote the Olympic champion.

Simone Biles and Jonathan owens

The video went viral back then, and judging by the reaction of the Planet of Gymnastics followers, it has preserved its hilarity all these years later. However, as fans looked back on the amusing video from 2017, the gymnastics icon looked back at one of the most successful years in her career.

Simone Biles looked back on a memorable year

2024 was the year of the U.S. gymnastics icon’s redemption. The Olympic champion conquered the ghost of Tokyo 2020 in Paris, winning not one but three gold medals. The 30-time world championship medalist even reclaimed her Olympic all-around champion crown. However, that was only the beginning for Biles, as she headlined the grander second edition of the Gold Over America Tour.

The champion gymnast ended the year as the highest-paid gymnast in the world, and as surprising as it may sound, her fame and game was also honored with 2 Critics’ Choice Awards for Simone Biles Rising Part 2. So the 27-year-old celebrated 2024 and ushered in the new year with not one but three posts on Instagram. The Olympic champion expressed her gratitude toward coach Cecile Landi and Team USA physician Marcia Faustin.

 Simone Biles

“Before the year ends, I wanna highlight these 2 ladies,. Thanks for keeping me sane this year and making sure I never gave up on my dreams. Much love,” the eleven-time Olympic medalist wrote in her tribute. The following story simply featured Biles lying on the floor, surrounded by her eleven medals. “Thank you, 2024,” the defending world champion wrote in the caption.

The third and final post was all about the people who made the past year special. “Here’s to 2025,” wrote Simone Biles as she shared the highlight reel for 2024. The carousel of happy memories featured images with Jonathan Owens, her fellow Olympians and GOAT crew, and of course, her sister Adria Biles. The one who filmed that viral video all those years ago.

The New Year gift might come in any shape. But have you ever heard of something like the last gift of the year? Well, Jonathan Owens can be a tough nut on the football field. He can also be a geek in the gallery of a gymnastics contest. However, he shows a very romantic side to his wife, Simone Biles. NFL and gymnastics fans have witnessed this saga multiple times. And now it’s time to see that romantic tale again on the last day of 2024. How?

On December 31, Simone Biles shared an Instagram story with a lovely caption. She wrote in the caption, “last flowers of 2024 [emoji] ilysm @jowens.” The story displayed a bouquet full of roses of several colors. For the gymnast, the year started with a tale of loneliness. Those days she was forced to spend her time in the couple’s Texas home while Jonathan remained engaged in his professional duty for the Green Bay Packers. Simone had no way out to break the chain, as she also committed something.

In those days, Simone Biles was looking to make a comeback to the national team. At 26, the task demanded something huge from her- the added commitment. However, the Olympian stood top at the test and brought a dramatic ending to her Paris Olympic stint, which she had named “Redemption Tour.” Meanwhile, the NFL safety continued to stand alongside her. First, he shifted from the Green Bay Packers to the Chicago Bears. The change in the NFL regiments shortened the geographical distance between the couple. Moreover, in the pre-season, Owens earned a special leave from the Bears only to attend the Paris Olympics and cheer for his wife.

The gymnastics fans remained witness to JO’s boisterous presence at Bercy Arena in each of Simone’s games. He did everything from the stand to cheer the former Olympic champion. The neat result? Biles left the French capital snagging four medals (including three golds). She completed her Redemption Tour with a fairy tale ending. The achievement made JO proud. Later, the time came to have support from his wife.

Nonetheless, Simone reciprocated by showing her support at every NFL game this season her husband played and being affectionate in public. Her attire often attracted eyes. Meanwhile, the couple’s PDAs gave new goals to the fans. The atmosphere persisted as Jonathan’s considerate New Year’s Eve present reignited Simone’s affection for him. However, Simone Biles had her own plans to commemorate the last day of the year.

Simone Biles does not believe in new year resolutions

Simone Biles and Jonathan owens

On December 31, Simone Biles received a present from her spouse. On December 25, she also enjoyed time with Jonathan Owens. All these experiences could represent the traditions. But don’t count the seven-time Olympic champion as a firm believer in rituals or customs. She doesn’t have any resolutions set for the new year.

Yes, the most skilled elite gymnast doesn’t believe in setting New Year’s resolutions. Any reason to have such a mindset? In an interaction, the 27-year-old claimed, “No, because I feel like you always break them. I don’t have any.” But she has a few goals for the upcoming year. “Besides relaxing and going on a couple of vacations with my husband, I’m really just trying to be involved in the community as much as I can, as well as giving back,” Simone Biles revealed. No, it is not about gymnastics anymore. She has crossed that mark in 2024. At the end hours of 2024, she displayed the same mindset. How? In her post to welcome the New Year, Simone had more pictures of her personal life than her professional one. You can guess.

Simone Biles has confessed that her husband, Jonathan Owens, “knows so much about” gymnastics but she is still learning about football.

The 27-year-old gymnast revealed how much she and Jonathan know about one another’s sports in a new video shared by the official Olympics Instagram account.

Simone Biles has confessed that her husband, Jonathan Owens, “knows so much about” gymnastics but she is still learning about football.

The 27-year-old gymnast revealed how much she and Jonathan know about one another’s sports in a new video shared by the official Olympics Instagram account.

SIMONE BILES AND HUSBAND

“Well, I could probably explain it to a five-year-old,” she said honestly. “But if I’m explaining it to a 25-year-old, might not make sense.”

She then admitted that Chicago Bears safety “knows so much about gymnastics” than she knows about football.

Recently, in an interview with People magazine, Simone shared that she has learned “so much” about football.

“I’ve learned so much and even some of his teammates’ wives are like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve come so far, you’ve learned so much,” said the gold medalist, “Because they’ve seen the journey.”

Additionally, Simone and Jonathan tied the knot on April 22, 2023.

To say 2024 was an outstanding year for USA Gymnastics would be an understatement. After the lackluster performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to Simone Biles’s debilitating bout of twisties, the entire squad was looking for redemption in Paris, and that’s exactly what they got. The grand finale of Biles’ redemption brought success for everyone in Team USA.

Now, the Olympics icon looking back at a stellar year the 27-year-old started as the defending world champion and ended as a three-time Paris Olympics gold medalist. After Tokyo 2020, Biles nearly drove herself to quit gymnastics. “I thought America hated me,” she confessed ahead of Paris 2024. However, after how things turned out, the Olympian couldn’t help but feel gratitude.

“Thank you, 2024,” wrote Simone Biles in her Instagram post. The gymnastics icon lay on the floor, surrounded by flowers and all seven of her Olympic medals. However, the defending world champion wasn’t the only one who looked back at 2024 with fond memories. Biles’ World Champions Center buddy and fellow Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles shared Team USA’s post.

“Leaving 2024 with a lot more hardware,” wrote the official Team USA Instagram handle. Chiles shared the image of herself posing with the Paris 2024 team all-around gold medal that Team USA had shared among many others. And while the bronze medal controversy caused the Olympian considerable distress, she chose to focus on the best part of her year.

Meanwhile, Simone Biles’ teammate Sunisa Lee bid farewell to 2024 in her way. Struggling with a chronic kidney issue, Lee had a hard time training but persevered to succeed at the U.S. Olympic trials and made it to Paris. While she couldn’t defend her all-around Olympic crown, Lee made a significant contribution to Team USA.

“2024 easily started as one of the hardest years but turned out to be one of the best years!! Truly so grateful for every opportunity and all the amazing people this year brought me. Here’s to 2025,” wrote the 21-year-old. And finally, we come to Cecile Landi, the woman who coached them all to glory at Paris 2024. Landi shared “24 pictures to say goodbye to 2024,” with Biles taking center stage among her athletes. However, the Olympian didn’t skip giving her coach her much-deserved flowers.

Simone Biles celebrated the women who made 2024 special

While Simone Biles was thankful for the success she saw in 2024, the Olympian made a separate post to celebrate the women who made it possible. The Olympic legend posted an image from the premiere of Simone Biles Rising Part II, where she posed alongside Landi and Team USA physician Marcia Faustin. She didn’t hesitate to praise the women in her post.

“Before the year ends, I wanna highlight these 2 ladies,” Simone Biles explained in her post. “Thanks for keeping me sane this year and making sure I never gave up on my dreams. Much love,” added the seven-time Olympic gold medalist. While Landi helped her pupil focus during practice and in competition, Faustin helped Biles stay on top physically and mentally off the mat.

So as the year came to an end, Biles hoped to make it clear that Cecile Landi was an integral part of her success. In fact, this isn’t the first or the only time the gymnast has praised her coach. When the 45-year-old left WCC to pursue her dream of coaching a college gymnastics team, Biles supported her long-time coach without hesitation.

“Simone was the first one to tell me: I’m so happy for you. You need to go.” Cecile Landi told the Washington Post in August 2024. So while Simone Biles celebrated the conclusion of an outstanding year alongside the community, she didn’t forget to celebrate the people who made it special.

Athletes, coaches, fans and even the wives and girlfriends all had their time in the spotlight after an eventful year of sports in 2024.

In a year that gave us the Olympics in Paris, a summer filled with the beautiful game from the Copa America and Euro tournaments, and a boom in the WNBA‘s popularity, athletes triggered the curious minds of fans and the general public for a variety of reasons.

Athletes who burst onto the scene this past year and others who have been around and continue to generate headlines have been subject to Google searches for stories of incredible feats and head-scratching controversies.

Spanish midfielder Rodri had a brilliant run in 2024 for club and country.

The Madrid native opened the year with four goals and seven assists to help Manchester City soar to the top of the Premier League.

After his season in England, Rodri helped the Spaniards win the UEFA Euro tournament playing in six matches and scoring a goal for La Rojas. His efforts for his nation earned Rodri the Player of the Tournament award.

Furthermore, his success for both sides earned him the coveted Ballon d’Or in November.

Indian batsman Shashank Singh gained headlines in 2024 after being purchased by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 auction.

The transaction caused much confusion as two players with the same name were up for grabs and the Kings felt they had picked the wrong player. A clip of the incident went viral on social media not long after and the team clarified that they had indeed got the Shashank they wanted.

Despite the team’s disappointing ninth-place finish, Singh had 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65. He also hit two half-centuries, including 28 fours and 21 sixes.

Scottie Scheffler enjoyed a remarkable year out on the golf course as he secured nine wins in 21 competitions.

Scheffler emerged victorious in the Hero World Challenge, Tour Championship, Paris Olympics, Travelers Championship, Memorial Tournament, RBC Heritage, Masters Tournament, The Players Championship, and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

While he earned an estimated $58.5million this year, Scheffler made even more headlines off it during a mind-boggling series of events that saw him get arrested before the PGA Championship.

Incredible video saw him being pinned to a cop car, before he was taken to the cells and made to pose for a mugshot in orange prison uniform. Despite the chaos outside the course, Scheffler carried on with the competition and finished tied for eighth place – a remarkable response to a bizarre few days.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya made noise during the 2024 Cricket T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

Pandya proved to be a force with both bat and ball as India secured their second title, besting South Africa by seven runs in the final.

The 31-year-old also shocked the cricket world when he moved to the Mumbai Indians after two seasons with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He was named captain of the five-time championship team before they finished at the bottom of the IPL.

The Spanish national football team beamed with young talent this year, and one of the rising stars is 22-year-old winger Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.

As La Roja proved their European supremacy at the Euros this summer, Williams was a key part of the Spaniards’ success, with two goals and an assist in the tournament.

Outside his national colors, Williams scored seven goals and dished out 16 assists for Bilbao across all competitions.

And it seems 2025 could be an even bigger year for the young star, with Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all reportedly sniffing around for his signature.

While fighting the 58-year-old version of Mike Tyson does not hold much weight in modern-day boxing, Jake Paul deserves the credit for bringing one of the all-time greats out of retirement to fight a much younger competitor.

While the fight was not as exciting as advertised, Paul and his team’s efforts to promote it were noteworthy. Furthermore, Paul’s brash behavior on and off social media kept his name in after a hashtag over the year.

Before finishing 2024 by starring in Netflix‘s first boxing event, Paul scored knockout wins over Ryan Bourland in March and Mike Perry in July.

Simone Biles took the 2024 Olympics by storm as she spearheaded the United States to the top of gymnastics supremacy.

 Simone Biles

After an unexpected exit from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, all eyes were on Biles as she returned to the Olympic stage in the French capital.

The Columbus, Ohio native did not disappoint as she added three golds and a silver to her incredible collection. Biles finishes 2024 with a total of seven golds, two silvers, and two bronzes in her Olympic career.

Off the field, she has also made headlines in the stands at Chicago Bears games, supporting her NFL husband Jonathan Owens.

Seventeen-year-old Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal became a household name after a spectacular year on the pitch.

Yamal shined in Spain’s route to winning the UEFA Euro tournament over the summer. The young ace had social media roaring when he became the youngest player to score in tournament history with a screamer against France in the semi-final.

The Barcelona star was named the Young Player of the Tournament before returning to the Catalan club and becoming the youngest player to reach 50 appearances for Barca’s first team while setting scoring and assist records across competitions.

Not a bad start to his career, that’s for sure.

Boxing legend Mike Tyson had fans equally excited and nervous when he announced that, at 58, he would be fighting against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who is 30 years his junior.

Fans tuned into the buildup as Iron Mike appeared to show flashes of his terrifying young self. After all, he was once the world heavyweight champion who ended 44 of his 50 pro career wins via knockout.

The event was the first boxing card to stream on Netflix and both sides did their best to promote the gimmick bout. This included Tyson infamously slapping Paul on stage during their weigh-in stare-down.

While Fight Week proved to be a bizarre series of events leading up to a lackluster eight-rounder, the masses were intrigued by the idea of one of the boxing greats returning to action.

The 2024 Summer Olympics was marred with controversy from the get-go. But there might have been none bigger than the one surrounding Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

Khelif took gold in the women’s welterweight competition despite calls for her to be barred from fighting female opponents almost a year after she was thrown out of the World Championships for allegedly failing gender eligibility tests.

It was later proven that Khelif was born a female and suffers from a rare condition called Differences in Sex Development, which can lead to developing XY chromosomes.

After suffering a verbal assault from the public, Khelif finished 2024 with not only a gold medal, but also Associated Press’ Female Athlete of the Year award.

It would’ve been understandable for Sha’Carri Richardson to get lost in endless questions of “What if?”

After finishing second in the women’s 100 meters at the Paris Olympics following so much hype going into the Games, the dominant narrative could’ve easily been that her silver medal was a disappointment.

But in a performance that will go down in sports history, Richardson’s sprint to Olympic gold in the final leg of the women’s 4×100 relay halted any doubts or criticisms in their tracks. Her win after heartbreak in 2021 showed resiliency and was an inspiring story that led her to be named the Outsports 2024 Person of the Year.

As the out bisexual athlete said after last year’s national championships, “I’m not back. I’m better.”

With all runners competing in a driving rainstorm straight out of a Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande collab, a slight handoff hesitation earlier in the Olympics race left Team USA trailing by the time Richardson took the baton.

Everyone watching knew she’d finish strong, but the question was: would it be enough to overcome the deficit and rewrite her Olympic story?

The instant she grabbed the stick, it was like saying, “I told you.”

It was one thing to blaze past the rest of her competitors in a way that made you wonder if she’d leave permanent scorch marks in the track. That would’ve been enough for a compelling story of perseverance and triumph.

But then there was Richardson’s signature moment: the side-eye of glory.

After bolting out into the lead just before she hit the finish line, Richardson turned her head to look back at the rest of her competitors and dismissed them with one glance.

By itself, her victory was iconic.

But Richardson, a member of Team LGBTQ, also pulled it off it with the kind of zazz that outshone even the gold medal she won. (Richardson is out as bisexual, having posted as such in 2015. Recently she has been rumored to be romantically linked with fellow U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman.)

Sha’Carri Richardson

The moment was a perfect coda to a saga that kicked into high gear when Richardson appeared to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 one week after finding out her biological mother passed away.

Maddeningly, after she tested positive for pot, she then got suspended for one month and was forced to miss the Games that she’d just qualified for.

Richardson’s victorious run in Paris was three years in the making. The fortitude she showed in coming back from the disappointment of 2021 and her second place finish in the 100 meters is what turned her into a great Olympic hero who will be celebrated for decades.

It was more than just a redemption story. It was proof that “I’m not back. I’m better” was the truth.

Simone Biles has confessed that her husband, Jonathan Owens, “knows so much about” gymnastics but she is still learning about football.

The 27-year-old gymnast revealed how much she and Jonathan know about one another’s sports in a new video shared by the official Olympics Instagram account.
