Simone Biles and her husband, Chicago Bears defensive back Jonathan Owens, enjoyed a nice date night at the soldout Stegeman Coliseum in Athens to root on the Georgia gymnastics team and co-head coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi.

Canqueteau-Landi has been Biles’ personal coach for the past eight years, so the Olympic champion had to show her support.

Biles and Owens watched as the GymDogs were able to take care of business and take down the visiting Boise State Broncos in convincing fashion, 196.825-193.600.

During the meet, Biles was documenting the experience and couldn’t help but notice her husband returning to an old viral habit. Owens had gone viral during the Paris Olympics for taking notes during Biles’ performances and keeping track of everyone’s scores.

Even though Biles was not on the mat, Owens was paying close attention to every detail.

That is a student of the game right there.

Not only did Owens go viral for taking notes in Paris and cheering on his wife every step of the way, he went above and beyond with some incredible custom shirts while sitting next to Biles family.

Owens isn’t the only supportive one in the relationship, either.

After the Olympics, Biles embarked on the Gold Over America Tour with her fellow Olympic teammates and toured the country to put on a great show. When she had the free time, she would pop up and surprise Owens on the road.

As they say on the social media streets, “#CoupleGoals.”

Jonathan Owens’s playful admission that Simone Biles is the better athlete has ignited a lively debate among fans and sports enthusiasts. In a light-hearted remark, the NFL player quipped, “I’m not doing no backflips,” highlighting his wife’s incredible skills as a gymnast. This article examines the athletic accomplishments of both Biles and Owens, assessing the validity of his humorous claim.

Simone Biles is a towering figure in gymnastics. Her Olympic career is nothing short of legendary. She has won a remarkable seven Olympic medals, including four golds. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles made history by becoming the first woman in over 40 years to win five medals in a single Olympic Games. Beyond her Olympic triumphs, she holds 25 World Championship medals, making her the most decorated gymnast in history.

Biles’s talent is not just in her titles but also in her extraordinary skills. She has introduced groundbreaking techniques to the sport. For instance, her signature moves, the “Biles,” is a double layout with a half twist. This level of skill pushes the limits of what’s possible in gymnastics, setting new standards for future athletes.

Biles has profoundly influenced gymnastics. She has inspired countless young athletes to pursue the sport. Beyond her performance, her advocacy for mental health has opened discussions about athlete well-being, emphasizing that success isn’t just about medals but also mental strength.

Jonathan Owens is no slouch in the athletic department either. As a safety in the NFL, he has made a name for himself. After starting his career with the Houston Texans, he later joined the Arizona Cardinals. With impressive statistics, he has recorded over 100 tackles and several interceptions throughout his career.

Owens stands out due to his athleticism and strength. At 6 feet, he combines speed and agility with power, making him an effective defensive player. His training focuses on speed drills, weightlifting, and conditioning, necessary for competing at the highest level of football.

While both sports demand exceptional athleticism, they challenge the body in different ways. Gymnastics requires flexibility, precision, and grace, while football emphasizes strength, speed, and endurance. Each discipline presents unique demands, making direct comparisons tricky.

Both gymnastics and football involve highly specialized skill sets. Gymnasts train for routines that require complex movements, while football players practice plays that rely on teamwork and coordination. Each sport necessitates specific training and focus.

The physical requirements of gymnastics and football diverge significantly. Gymnasts endure high-impact routines that stress the joints and require immense flexibility. In contrast, football players face rigorous contact, culminating in a need for resilience and strength during gameplay.

Training approaches also differ. Gymnasts practice hours daily, perfecting routines and new skills. On the other hand, football training includes drills, scrimmages, and game film analysis, along with intense physical training.

Owens’s lighthearted comment reflects a deeper appreciation for Biles’s abilities. It showcases the playful dynamic in their relationship. By recognizing Biles’s unique talents, he illustrates the respect he has for her accomplishments.

Fans have reacted positively to Owens’s remark, using it as an opportunity to celebrate both athletes. Many see it as a fun acknowledgment of the differences between sports, rather than a competition of who’s better.

Acknowledging the unique talents of athletes is essential. Each sport demands distinct skills, and both Biles and Owens excel in their respective fields. It’s crucial to embrace diverse strengths in athletics.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

The couple consistently displays mutual support for each other. Whether cheering from the sidelines or celebrating personal victories, their bond is evident. This teamwork extends beyond sports, showcasing a healthy relationship built on respect.

And Jonathan has learned a lot about how best to support Simone, especially because he confessed, he didn’t actually know who she was when they started dating during the COVID-19 pandemic as he’d “never really paid attention” to gymnastics. Luckily, his ignorance didn’t blow his shot.

“She came down to Houston,” the NFL player recalled in a December 2023 interview with The Pivot “She lived in the suburbs, so she had to drive about 45 minutes. Then the rest is history.”

Biles and Owens serve as role models for fans and aspiring athletes. Their success stories resonate widely, encouraging individuals to pursue their passions with dedication. They inspire many to support athletes across various disciplines.

In conclusion, comparing the athletic achievements of Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens reveals the greatness of each athlete. Biles’s impressive record in gymnastics and Owens’s accomplishments in the NFL exemplify distinct types of athletic excellence. Recognizing and valuing these differences is important in celebrating sports as a whole. Ultimately, both athletes share their own unique journey, proving that greatness comes in many forms. Supporting athletes in all fields enriches our appreciation of sports and the incredible talents they bring.

Simone Biles’ Husband Says She’s the Better Athlete in the Relationship: ‘I’m Not Doing No Backflips’

In a double athlete household, Jonathan Owens declares Simone Biles the winner!

While on the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year red carpet earlier this month, the couple answered a series of rapid fire questions — and when it comes to whose the best athlete among the two stars, Owens, 29, said his wife easily comes out on top.

The Chicago Bears safety quickly pointed at the 7-time Olympic gold medalist when asked who among them is the better athlete, adding, “I’m not doing no backflips. Nah,” as both of them burst into laughter.

When it comes to who is the better cheerleader, SI‘s next question, Biles immediately pointed to her husband.

“Jonathan, he knows more and he really pays attention,” she said, before explaining her less-than-attentive football-watching habits. “After the first half, I lose track of the game.”

“She’ll hear everybody else yelling and she’ll be like, ‘What happened,’ ” Owens joked, while spinning his head around. “But you know, it’s the thought that counts, I love it.”
Back in 2023, Owens was the center of intense online backlash when he said that he didn’t know who Biles was when they met and that he considered himself “the catch” in the relationship — and last spring, the Olympian admitted the backlash crushed her.

During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast on April 16, Biles said that Owens’ comments were misconstrued.

“He never said I wasn’t a catch,” Biles clarified. “He said he was a catch because he is. I’ve never met a man like him. A lot of people that meet him are like, oh my gosh. I want a man like that, like Jonathan.”

Revealing that initially she found a bit of humor in the online response, she said that it ultimately hurt her feelings.

“I thought it was hilarious what people were saying divorce him, divorce him. All of this crazy stuff. And, like, he doesn’t even like to say divorce. So I thought it was hilarious at first, and then they hurt my feelings,” she said.

Biles, continued, adding, “Then, like, one night, I broke down, and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?'”

The couple have supported each other continuously in each other’s sport, with Owens showing up for Biles, 27, during her Gold Over America Tour and traveling to Paris to be with her at last summer’s Olympics.

As for Biles, she has seamlessly transitioned to a WAG, showing up and cheering on Owens in the stands during game days.

While she’s enjoying that lifestyle now, Owens previously told PEOPLE that he knew she would always go back for a third shot at the Olympics.

“I knew once she made that decision that she was going to go back,” Owens told PEOPLE in August. “I’m confident in her ability. Obviously you still have to go out there and do it, but I was confident that she would.”

“It was an unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I’m just so thankful I was able to go and just witness her continue to make history,” Owens said of witnessing Biles in action. “I’m just so proud.”

And “as the world saw, man, she didn’t disappoint.”

Simone Biles and husband Jonathan Owens are asked who is the better athlete. See their responses

Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, may both excel at their respective sports, but when it comes to who’s the best athlete in the relationship, Biles has her husband’s vote.

Biles and Owens answered a series of couples questions in a video Sports Illustrated posted to X Jan. 16. Right out of the gate, the interviewer wanted to know if either Owens, a safety for the Chicago Bears, or Biles, the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast in history, was the superior athlete.

Without hesitating, Owens pointed to Biles, joking, “I’m not doing no back flips,” prompting his wife to laugh.

Biles was recognized as Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year and received the award at a ceremony in Las Vegas on Jan. 7.

Owens’ answer comes more than a year after Biles answered the same question during a December 2023 appearance on Peacock’s “Back That Year Up.” (Peacock and TODAY.com are owned by the same parent company, NBCUniversal.)

“I think we’re good at our own sports,” Biles told comedian co-hosts Kenan Thompson and Kevin Hart.

However, Biles went on to say that she and Owens, who tied the knot in April 2023, have debated the subject themselves.

“We’ve tried to pin each other against one another on, like, difficulty, ability and all that stuff. So, at the end of the day, gymnastics is harder, if he agrees or not,” Biles said.

Hart then asked Biles if the debate over her and Owens’ athletic ability had ever turned into a “household fight.”

“We fought over it a couple of times, and then we vowed once we got married, we wouldn’t talk about it again,” Biles replied. “But it keeps coming up every time.”

Biles added, “He has done my workout in the gym, and he could barely do it, and then I went to their NFL workout, and I crushed it.”

Owens previously caught flack for implying that he was “the catch” in the couple’s relationship when he appeared on “The Pivot” podcast in December 2023. The NFL star was also blasted for telling the podcast’s hosts that he had no idea who Biles was when the pair first matched on the dating app Raya in 2020.

The following year, Biles defended Owens during an episode of her Netflix docuseries “Simone Biles Rising,” explaining that his comments on “The Pivot” were “taken out of context.”

While describing the “mental toll” the backlash took on her, Biles recounted how her fans instantly became “Jonathan’s biggest haters,” posting negative comments about him on her social media posts.

“Who’s going to go to somebody’s (social media) profile and say who you can and can’t love? That’s just ridiculous,” Biles said.

Jonathan Owens has admitted that Simone Biles is the supreme athlete in their relationship!

During his appearance on the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year red carpet, alongside Biles, the two answered rapid fire questions in context to their double athlete household.

The 29-year-old proudly admitted that when it comes to who is the better athlete, the trophy goes to his wife.

Owens, who is the Chicago Bears safety was quick to name the 7-time Olympian when the two were asked who is the best, replying, “I’m not doing no backflips. Nah,” prompting laughter from both of them.

And when it comes to being the best cheerleader, Biles chose her husband, stating, “Jonathan, he knows more and he really pays attention.”

Comparing herself and her less-than-attentive football-watching habits, she continued, “After the first half, I lose track of the game.”

“She’ll hear everybody else yelling and she’ll be like, ‘What happened,’ ” Owens joked as he chimed in while spinning his head around. “But you know, it’s the thought that counts, I love it.”

Simone Biles Makes An Honest Confession During Recent Reunion With Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade: “Still Support Me”

It’s a dog-eat-dog world when it comes to gymnastics on the international stage. And yet, sometimes the brotherhood, or sisterhood, between athletes can create heartwarming moments. While 7x Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is justifiably looked at as competition by gymnasts from around the world, the Houston native confessed that some of her fiercest opponents can have a very different view on the matter.

The gymnastics GOAT appeared at the Vtex Connect in New York on January 13th. There, she shared the stage with Rebeca Andrade, Brazil’s Olympic gold medalist gymnast, who also enjoys an iconic status around the world. In her recent Instagram story, Biles shared a brief snippet from the event where the two gymnasts can be seen hugging each other.

At the event, Simone talked about how her first Olympic experience was made easy by the Brazilians. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles hauled four gold and one bronze medal, establishing herself firmly as one of the most prolific stars of the Games. But she had people in the foreign land to support her as well. “That was my very first Olympics, and Brazil embraced me as one of their own, even though I was American, and they loved on me…and they still support me,” she said about how the Rio Games will always be memorable for her. With that, she also shared praising words for the 2x Olympic gold medalist Andrade.

I absolutely love and adore Rebeca,” Biles told the crowd highlighting that the two share a bond that goes beyond their gymnastics rivalry as seen in an Instagram story posted by Lu CarmoInstagram story posted by Lu Carmo. “The way she paved Brazilian gymnastics… is definitely unmatched,” Simone Biles stated further. “I love her, and I love that resilience,” she affirmed with a beaming smile, noting that what they share cannot be quantified but instead can only be felt.

When the two Olympic gold medalists embraced each other at the New York event tonight, fans broke into loud applause, hailing both gymnasts for their incredible achievements at the grandest sporting tournament in the world. However, for the ardent gymnastics fans, this wasn’t the first time that Biles and Andrade’s mutual love and respect for each other made them go “aww“.

Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade’s sisterhood goes beyond the sport

 Simone Biles

The scenes that unfolded at the Bercy Arena last year will surely go down as historic in the gymnastics community. In the floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Andrade bested the USA’s Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles to win gold in women’s floor exercise, while the two Americans bagged silver and bronze, respectively. However, it was the medal ceremony that became even more noteworthy than the event itself. After the Brazilian received her Olympic gold, both Biles and Chiles hailed her achievement in spectacular fashion by getting down on their knees and paying tribute to the best athlete among them. The incredible display of sportsmanship melted the fans’ hearts, and they couldn’t stop remarking how it was a beautiful moment.

Rebeca is a queen,” Biles explained with a grin. “Jordan suggested we bow, and I was like, ‘Absolutely.’” Simone later explained how she and the UCLA star decided to go the extra mile to show Rebeca their admiration. However, the intense rivalry the two have had over the years has many fans believing that it dictates Andrade and Simone’s lives. However, in November last year, Rebeca nullified the speculations.

We support each other a lot, we root for each other a lot…I root for her a lot,” the 25-year-old told No Ataque. One story for the books, huh? So how do you love to see these two larger-than-life stars sharing their praise for one another? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

It’s a new year, and Simone Biles is already making waves in the gymnastics world. However, this time Biles didn’t make the splash alone, as one of the Olympian’s biggest rivals, Rebeca Andrade, shared the stage with her. However, while the two gymnastics icons stole the limelight, the 27-year-old’s husband was there to support his wife as always.

Jonathan Owens has been on a break ever since the Chicago Bears failed to qualify for the NFL playoffs. However, the couple is utilizing their time together to the fullest, as Owens hasn’t left Bile’s side since the new year. It seems the Olympic gold medalist couldn’t be happier with her biggest cheerleader ready to back her up, as she shared a behind-the-scenes selfie on Instagram.

“Bring bae to work. @jowens,” Simone Biles wrote in the caption of her Instagram story from the Vtex Connect in New York. The selfie captured the NFL star in a dashing gray suit and a black turtleneck. Biles color coordinated with her husband, even wearing a similar black turtleneck and silver chain. However, this wasn’t the only snippet the gymnast shared with her husband.

I can always count on Simone Biles to slay in her game-day outfits, whether it’s her eye-catching white boots or her custom Jonathan Owens jacket. This time, however, the star athlete is pulling out all the stops for a special night out—and it might be her most daring look yet.

Just a few days ago, the 27-year-old gold medalist attended the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year awards ceremony in Las Vegas, and she shared a few highlights to her Instagram feed this weekend. For the occasion, the athlete rocked her gorgeous short hair in a classic bob, but it was her glittery, see-through mini dress that stole the show. Biles captioned the post, “A night to remember….”

In the first slide, Biles poses barefoot in the bold nude dress, which features long sleeves and several rhinestones. Then, we see images of the Olympian posing alongside her family and loved ones, including her sister, Adira, her parents and her husband. And in the final slide, Simone and her beau show some PDA while sitting together at the ceremony.

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who’s impressed by her dazzling attire. Several fans took to the comments and complimented Biles’s outfit. One person wrote, “Gorgeous as always. Love that dress.” Another added, “The dress is everything.”

Simone Biles

Just a day after the ceremony, Sports Illustrated shared footage of Biles delivering a speech after winning the 2024 Sportsperson of the Year Award—thanks in part to her many record-breaking achievements and becoming the most decorated gymnast of all time.

She said, “Thank you, Sports Illustrated, for this incredible honor. I’m truly excited to be up here, especially with Aly [Raisman] presenting. I share this award with my family and my friends, as they have been with me every step of the way and I’m truly grateful or their love and support. I also want to shout out my coaches Cécile [Canqueteau-Landi] and Laurent [Landi] because I couldn’t have done this without you guys. People think of gymnastics as an individual sport, but I wouldn’t be here without my team. Their care and support as an athlete means more than I could possibly express.”

Biles included a sweet tribute to Owens and added, “To my husband Jonathan, thank you for being with me through the highs and the lows and always being by my side, no matter what.”

Simone Biles made a surprise visit to the “Today” show to showcase her support for anchor Hoda Kotb on her final day.

For the occasion, Biles wore a pair of black slingback pumps that curved in the upper to create an almond-toe design. Pairing the shoes with black tights, a silver oval was present on the back, with the shoe being completed by a 3 inch stiletto heel. Wearing a colorful jacket reflective of the season, Biles called Kotb her “Olympic mom,” noting that she was grateful for the platform Kotb had given her along with her teammates over the years.

In early January, Biles was named Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year, where she showed off a number of statement-making outfits in her photoshoot. Some of the portraits included her wearing the Meg turtleneck bodysuit by SER.O.YA., which she teamed with Retrofête’s Braelynn’s Crystal Hot Shorts, and a pair of strappy heels from Giuseppe Zanotti.

Simone Biles

During her interview, she told the publication that she is unsure of what the future holds for her in-regards to Olympic competition. “Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”

Biles has also worn many noteworthy looks while supporting husband Jonathan Owens on the sidelines at his football games this year. This included the custom Jonathan Owens, tracksuit she was spotted in during the holiday as the Chicago Bears took on the Seattle Seahawks.

When did Simone Biles first compete in the Olympics?

Biles first competed at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro at age 19, where she would go on to win four gold medals in a groundbreaking performance.
