YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul has improved his professional fight record to 12-1 and turned his attentions back to British heavyweight Anthony Joshua.

Paul defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in Southern California on Saturday.

The 28-year-old’s only loss in the ring was seven fights and more than two years ago against Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Despite a fiercely partisan crowd in favour of his opponent, Paul tore out of his corner early on and fought off a late flurry to hold on to the win.

After seeing off Chavez, Paul teased imminent confirmation of a highly anticipated transatlantic slobberknocker.

Joshua would have a height and weight advantage over a younger opponent but Paul isn’t cowed by the prospect of a pummelling.

“I’m definitely not a heavyweight, but I’m still gonna take the challenge,” he told the media.

“You look at Deontay Wilder; he was beating these guys weighing 215 pounds, [Joshua is] like 6ft 6in or something, but anything is possible.

“Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge.”

Joshua, 35, has claimed 25 of his 28 professional wins by knockout and has been beaten four times.

One of those losses was a fifth-round knockout by Daniel Dubois in his last fight in September 2024. Dubois walked away as the IBF heavyweight champion having successfully defended the belt he was given after it was vacated by Oleksandr Usyk.

Chavez suggested after Saturday’s fight that Paul started strong but tired, saying that the Cleveland-born boxer isn’t ready to step up to the next level against champions like Joshua.

Nevertheless, the wheels are turning and Paul vs Joshua appears to be in the works for 2026.

“We’ve been DM-ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year,” Paul revealed in Anaheim on Saturday.

Since turning pro in 2020, Paul has won seven fights by knockout.

Last November, he won by decision against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a massively hyped fight in Arlington, Texas.

Joshua’s last win came in March 2024 against Francis Ngannou, who he beat by knockout in the second round in Riyadh.

Anthony Joshua has issued a stark warning to Jake Paul following their private message exchanges, telling the YouTuber-turned-boxer to be careful what he wishes for.

The former heavyweight world champion sent Paul a menacing final message after the American had taunted him about his previous knockout defeats.

There has been some talk in recent months about Jake Paul potentially facing Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in an exhibition boxing match. While Paul fights at cruiserweight tomorrow against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr live on DAZN, Davis began his career at 125lbs and has only gone up 10lbs in weight in the twelve years since.

And, yet, there has been talk of the pair meeting, with what would likely by a 60lb difference in weight between them.

In May, Paul said that an exhibition match had been discussed but was dependent upon Davis winning a rematch against Lamont Roach (Davis and Roach drew in a March bout). Such a rematch has not been set.

Paul also had a series of stipulations should such a match take place.

The bout, Paul said, would take place at 195lbs.

He added: “It would be an exhibition, 10 three-minute rounds. No restrictions, just the fact we couldn’t actually get it professionally sanctioned.”

Such a proposal looks increasingly unlikely. Should Paul beat Chavez this weekend, his star seems to be turned towards a run at a world title at cruiserweight or a shot against ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

So Paul-Davis, even as an exhibition, may not happen. Thankfully, such disparities have been rare in boxing. That does not mean that they have never taken place.

It should be no surprise that the biggest weight disparity in history should have come in the heavyweight division. There is, after all, no maximum weight limit unlike other divisions. Instead, there is a de facto minimum of 200lbs.

It was against this background that the WBA heavyweight championship was fought in 2009 in Nuremberg, Germany, between Nikolai Valuev and David Haye. Valuev, 50-2 (34), was 7’2” and came with a shady, murky past in Moscow. Valuev won his title against John Ruiz in Berlin, Germany, and defended it against a host of undersized heavyweights such as Ruslan Chagaev, Monte Barrett, and Evander Holyfield.

But it was against David Haye, 28-4 (26), where the weight difference was most apparent.

Haye had moved up to heavyweight after unifying the cruiserweight division below with a second-round knockout over Enzo Maccarinelli. After moving up to heavyweight with an uber-200lb fifth-round win over Monte Barrett in London, Haye took aim at Valuev.

On the night the pair met in Nuremberg, Valuev weighed in at 316lbs. Haye, meanwhile, came into the ring at 217lbs. For the hard of maths, that is a 99lb difference.

It was Haye who won that night by majority decision. Valuev, despite his size, was never a large puncher and he allowed Haye to bounce around the ring and potshot him. In the closing moments of the fight, Haye staggered Valuev.

The win gave Haye the WBA championship, which he defended against John Ruiz and Audley Harrison, before losing to Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg. After a series of lucrative-but-smaller fights, Haye retired after two losses to Tony Bellew.

Jess Willard vs Jack Dempsey, 1919

We have to go back over a century for this one, and it is another heavyweight championship – this time between Jess Willard, 22-5-1 (20), and Jack Dempsey, 53-6-8 (43). The pair met in Toledo, Ohio, in a fight that saw Dempsey, now recognised as one of the great heavyweights, anointed as the toughest man on the planet.

There was 58lbs of weight difference between the men. Willard, at 6’7”, weighed 245lbs – around average in today’s super-heavyweight era, but far above the 180-190lb average seen at the time. Dempsey, meanwhile, was 6’1” and came in at 187lbs. One wonders whether Dempsey, in today’s era with our modern methods, would fight instead of light-heavyweight rather than heavyweight or, even, cruiserweight.

That weight disparity did little to help the heavyweight champion. Willard took a hell of a beating in the fight, being stopped in the third round. There has been a lot of talk in the years since that Dempsey entered the ring with his hands loaded or that he carried a railway spike in his first. More prosaically, it seems most likely that Willard just caught a ferocious beating from a smaller, more-ferocious man.

Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch vs Billy Zumbrun, 2001

Far from the top level of the heavyweight division, but this match between Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch, 77-10-4 (57), and the journeyman Billy Zumbrun, 27-14-1 (16), over twenty years ago saw a whopping 150lbs of difference between the weights of the two men. Esch, at 5’11½”, weighed in at 373lbs. Zumbrun, 6’1”, came in at 223lbs.

It made no difference for Zumbrun, who outscored Esch over four rounds (yes, four) by scores of 39-37, 40-36, and 38-38.

Unfortunately, it seems that the bout was not recorded. That begs the question: What did we invent film and videotape for?

Muhammad Ali vs Wilt Chamberlain, 1971

What many do not remember about ‘The Greatest’ was the sheer number of exhibition fights that he fought over the years against athletes such as Antonio Inoki (Tokyo, 1975) or Lyle Alzado (Denver, 1979), and Michael Dokes (Miami, 1977).

But one that never came off would have seen the 6’3” Ali take on the 7’1” basketball superstar Wilt Chamberlain. The difference was not so much about weight as it was about height (about 10” of it in total).

Chamberlain, who was playing for the LA Lakers at the time, was extremely nervous about facing the then-former heavyweight champion. Ali’s people told him to not goad Chamberlain, who was yet to sign the contract.

On entering the room, Ali took one look at Chamberlain and, acknowledging the height difference between them, yelled out, “TIMBER!”

Chamberlain did not sign the contract.

JAKE PAUL is ready to come to the UK for a fight – against either Anthony Joshua or Tommy Fury.

Paul has recently signed a string of female stars to his Most Valuable Promotions roster including Ellie Scotney and Savannah Marshall.

So the YouTuber-turned-boxer is plotting an MVP show in the UK – and could even headline against ex-heavyweight champion AJ.

Paul said: “For sure, we would love to.

“We’re going to do it all and I’d love to come back to the UK and maybe for Anthony Joshua, maybe Madison Square Garden, who knows?

“But I’d love to fight in the UK and we’ll definitely do an event there.”

Paul, 28, called out Joshua, 35, earlier this year and the two struck a verbal agreement to fight in 2026.

AJ is yet to return since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois, 27, in September and has since undergone elbow surgery.

Paul’s last fight was at heavyweight against Mike Tyson – who controversially came out of retirement aged 58 before losing on points.

He now returns on Saturday in California back down at cruiserweight against former middleweight champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39, on DAZN PPV.

Paul’s promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian revealed plans are in place for a UK show – with Fury among those who could be in the opposite corner.

Bidarian said: “We’ve had discussions around later this year in terms of having a UK event based on the roster of talent that we’ve built in terms of Jake, it really depends on who he’s fighting next and if that makes sense or not, right?

“The Tommy Fury fight is definitely a fight that he still wants if Tommy ever gets realistic about compensation.”

Fury, 26, beat Paul via split-decision in 2023 in Saudi Arabia but turned down an offer to rematch last year.

The 2019 Love Islander underwent hand surgery after rejecting a £6m deal to fight Paul on Netflix – with Tyson stepping in as a replacement.

Paul wants to avenge his only loss in the boxing ring – but only for the right price.

He said: “I’m on a path to world championship and if Tommy gets realistic we can make that happen. But he’s just like out-priced himself.

“I’m the only thing that Tommy has. I don’t need Tommy. I would love to avenge the loss 1,000 per cent.

“But there’s 15 people with massive names waiting to fight me and also the goal is to become world champion.

“I won Knockout of The Year, most watched fight ever. The only thing left to do in the sport is to become a world champion.”

In an unsurprising turn of events, 27-year-old Jake Paul defeated 58-year-old Mike Tyson in the highly-anticipated Netflix fight. Paul won by unanimous decision, landing more than twice as many punches on Tyson than Tyson landed on him. Anyone watching could notice that Tyson was past his prime. He was slow to get up from his corner, stagnant in the center of the ring, and unable to get in close on Paul.

Keen-eyed viewers noticed other patterns as well, most notably Tyson’s tendency to bite his glove during the fight. While peculiar, this isn’t anything new for Tyson. Here’s a quick explanation.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul live updates: Round-by-round analysis for Netflix fight

Mike Tyson has bitten his gloves before

While close-up footage of Mike Tyson during his heyday is hard to come by, we can go back to his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020 for some evidence.

Just as he did against Paul, Tyson can be seen in the video biting his left-hand glove.

Why does Tyson bite his gloves?

While this could be a maneuver Tyson does to keep his mouthguard tight, Mike Tyson’s answer to Ariel Helwani’s question after the match is a much more fun answer.

Of course, this is in reference to when Tyson infamously bit Evander Holyfield’s ear during their second bout in 1997. Everyone laughed; Holyfield probably cringed.

As crazy as it sounds though, Tyson’s joke answer might hold more water than we think. Tyson might just have a tendency to put soft, fleshy, ear-like substances in his mouth and bite down. As he said after the fight, sometimes fighters get caught up in the moment and aren’t thinking straight. They act without realizing what they are doing, so perhaps Tyson’s tendency to bite his glove was merely a tick that he does regularly.

Terence Crawford is over 40 fights into an exceptional professional career.

Since making his debut back in 2008, the 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has won world titles in four weight classes, as well as capturing the undisputed championship at super-lightweight and welterweight.

‘Bud’ is now gearing up for what could be the toughest test of his career, as he prepares to challenge Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super-middleweight championship in September.

Aside from his upcoming showdown with Canelo, the 37-year-old has also been linked with a bout against Youtube star turned professional fighter Jake Paul, who has won all but one of his professional fights since making his debut five years ago.

Speaking to Club Shay Shay, Crawford was asked if he would actually consider facing Paul, whose most recent victory came against heavyweight icon Mike Tyson.

“No, Jake’s doing his thing, Jake’s big but he’s doing his thing, I’m gonna let Jake do what Jake do.”

Crawford changed his mind promptly when the scenario has a $200 million purse attached…

“I’m fighting Jake Paul.”

‘The Problem Child’ makes his return to the ring on Saturday June 28 when he faces former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Paul has expressed his intentions to fight for a legitimate world title in the near future, but must defeat Chavez in impressive fashion if he is to push towards achieving his career long dream of capturing world honours.

Mike Tyson finally breaks silence on comeback fight after controversial bout against Jake Paul

Boxing legend Mike Tyson opens up about his potential boxing comeback and reflects on his headline-making bout against Jake Paul. At 58, the former heavyweight champ isn’t ruling anything out.

Though it’s been more than six months since Mike Tyson stepped back into the spotlight for a highly anticipated bout against Jake Paul, the legendary heavyweight remains deeply embedded in the cultural conversation.

That fight, which saw Tyson return to the ring at age 58, may have ended in a unanimous decision loss, but its impact far exceeded the result. With over $18 million in reported revenue, the event became one of the most lucrative combat sports showcases ever held outside of Las Vegas.

Looking back, Tyson admits he had mixed emotions about facing an opponent 31 years his junior. While part of him questioned the decision, he also takes immense pride in knowing he can still captivate fans and perform under the bright lights.

“The day after, I asked my wife, ‘Why did I do that?’” Tyson told Bleacher Report“I don’t know—I just did it because I’m always out of my comfort zone. I’m never in a place where I say, ‘Hey, this is it, I’m in my duration of life.’ No, I’m always gonna push the level, man. I’m that kind of guy. I might jump off a 15-story building one day—you never know—just to see if I can fly. I just like to push myself. That’s the only way I live.”

Tyson hints at possible comeback amid record talk

Despite the outcome, Tyson hasn’t closed the chapter on his fighting career. In the same interview, the former heavyweight champion shared an intriguing comment that reignited speculation: “Everything is possible. If somebody breaks my record, I might come back.”

With his 59th birthday approaching in June, Tyson continues to entertain the idea of returning to the ring. However, for now, his attention is on entrepreneurial ventures and media appearances that keep his brand active and his legacy alive.

A massive fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua is now set for 2026.

Jake Paul has made it clear that he intends to fight Anthony Joshua in 2026 and even hopes to defeat the former heavyweight champion.

Joshua called Paul after the YouTuber-turned-boxer shamelessly called out AJ on his podcast.

Additionally, it is reported that the two verbally agreed to fight next year, with Paul threatening to knock out Joshua while making a nasty jab at him.

Jake Paul on Anthony Joshua fight

Speaking told Ariel Helwani: “Yeah, we talked on the phone for like ten minutes and we’re both down. I said 2026 and he was like, ‘Alright, let’s get it.’

“We’re gonna make it happen so I think that’s going to be a mega-fight next year and something fun to test my skills at heavyweight.

“But I think his chin’s gone and especially if he fights another time or two in between the end of 2026.

“I love Anthony, he’s always supported me, I’ve always supported him but I just do believe I can beat him in a fight.”

Mike Tyson controversially returned at the age of 58 in Paul’s final bout, which took place at heavyweight.

However, Paul won an eight-round decision in Texas, and a massive 100 MILLION people watched on Netflix.

Prior to his September KO loss to 27-year-old Daniel Dubois, he weighed 227 pounds, which is still two stone less than Joshua’s weight.

Paul, now makes a comeback on June 28 against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 39, at the 200-pound cruiserweight limit of 14st 4lb.

Jake Paul has revealed exactly what former world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has told him about a potential rematch between ‘The Problem Child’ and Tyson’s younger brother, Tommy Fury.

Paul first fought Tommy back in February 2023 in Saudi Arabia. The bout is still Jake’s only loss, as he suffered a split-decision defeat.

The social media sensation’s most recent bout came against heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a fight that saw a record audience tune in to watch on Netflix. Despite the great anticipation surrounding the fight, Tyson looked a shell of his former self and barely landed a punch before losing a wide unanimous decision verdict.

Ironically, though, ‘Iron Mike’ was not originally Paul’s first choice of opponent. Tommy Fury was reportedly offered £6 million to take the rematch against Jake, but declined.

Paul’s next in-ring outing will come on the 28th of June against former world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. However, always keen to keep his name in the headlines, the YouTube superstar has had plenty to say about his plans beyond the showdown with Chavez.

A rematch with Tommy Fury is certainly something that Paul is open to – and Tommy appears to be on the same page. ‘TNT’ returned to action earlier this month following almost two years out with a hand injury, in a win against Bosnian fighter Kenan Hanjalic.

Shortly after picking up the win, Tommy called out Paul, assuring him that he was 100% ready to commit to a second fight between the pair.

Tommy declared:

“Jake Paul’s a b**** and he’s running scared. Jake, the hand’s fixed now, baby. The hand’s fixed. I fought a guy (Hanjalic) in here tonight who’s had over 100 amateur fights and is experienced as hell, and he’s as tough as teak.If Jake Paul wants to step inside this ring, I guarantee you next time I’ll knock you spark out.”

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Paul talked positively about the idea of a rematch with Tommy, but admitted to being concerned over whether the duo can get a deal over the line.

“I think the Fury fight will happen in the next 12 months, yeah. He just has to be realistic about what he’s worth, right? He just had a free fight on DAZN that tanked, couldn’t sell the tickets in wherever he was like a 1,000-person venue, and he’s just negotiating like he’s God. Again, I have ten names waiting to fight me in multiple different sports, MMA, boxing, all this stuff.”

Paul then went on to leak details of a private DM exchange that he had had with Tyson Fury. Despite Tommy winning the first fight, Team Fury seem to acknowledge that the rematch with Jake is the biggest opportunity available to the former Love Island star.

Tyson allegedly stated as much in a DM to Paul. The 28-year-old explained:

“I DM’d Tyson Fury because Tyson was like, ‘You guys need to make this happen now. I was like, ‘Tyson, you’ve got to put your brother in check here. He’s not going to get this money or this offer anywhere else.'”

Even though the rematch could be seriously lucrative, Paul still has his doubts that Tommy will actually agree to fight him again.

“He’s been boxing since he was six years old, it’s going to be the same stuff, same coach, his dumbass dad. He hasn’t got any better, so I just can’t wait. Seriously, I can’t wait to get in there with him, and whenever we can make that happen, it’s going to be Christmas Day for me.”

Mike Tyson lost his fight against influencer Jake Paul, but the 58-year-old earned widespread admiration for his resilience through the eight-round match.

However, his former trainer, Jeff Fenech, has expressed regret after urging people to bet on the legendary boxer to win the match against Paul.

Mike Tyson called the experience a victory, sharing gratitude for stepping into the ring again despite his health challenges.

Jeff Fenech Admits Regret Over Mike Tyson’s Loss To Jake Paul

In an interview with Australia Nine’s “Today,” Jeff Fenech, former trainer to Tyson, admitted he was overwhelmed with calls after urging “so many” people to bet on the boxer in his fight against Jake Paul last Friday.

Following the highly anticipated heavyweight clash, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which ended with Paul, 27, securing a unanimous decision victory over the 58-year-old Tyson after eight rounds, Fenech expressed his regret, stating, “Yeah, I was [surprised].”

“I had so many people ring me, and so many people lost money because of me. I’m pretty embarrassed,” he added, per the New York Post.

Despite Tyson’s defeat, Fenech insisted the fight wasn’t just about the result.

“It may have been a terrible fight, but what he represented and what he was trying to do isn’t just to show people he can fight, he’s trying to show people that at 58 you can work hard,” he explained. “He’s changed his whole life around and I think that’s what it’s about. The rest of the stuff far outweighs the fight.”

Jeff Fenech Warns Mike Tyson Against Returning To The Ring

Fenech, who previously worked with Tyson in the past, including his final fight in 2005 against Kevin McBride, after which Tyson retired with a record of 50 wins and six losses, believed that Iron Mike had the potential to secure one of the fastest wins of his career if he approached it correctly.

However, in the aftermath of Tyson’s loss to Paul, Fenech revealed he has spoken with the former heavyweight champion several times, discouraging Tyson from stepping into the ring again.

“My advice would be that you don’t have to do that again,” Fenech stated. “He’s talking about being sick … but at 58 and working your body the way he did, it’s very difficult to stay healthy. Sometimes, you overdo it and burn your engine out.”

Still, Fenech remains impressed by Tyson’s transformation. He said, “For me, I’m so proud of how Mike has changed his life around and over 100 million people watched at home. Although all of us fight people can say what a terrible fight that was, most people think what a great job Mike Tyson did.”

The Legendary Boxer’s Current Trainer Also Expressed Surprise At His Loss

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul

Rafael Cordeiro, Tyson’s trainer, recently spoke about Saturday’s fight at AT&T Stadium, expressing gratitude that the boxing icon can now focus on spending quality time with his family after months of intense preparation.

“We worked for seven months for this moment. I really believed we had this victory before the fight. He never asked to give up,” Cordeiro shared, per the Daily Mail.

Despite the loss, Cordeiro emphasized Tyson’s enduring legacy: “He (Tyson) is the people’s champion. He has inspired many people outside the ring. Most importantly, Mike comes home to his loved ones.”

Mike Tyson Reveals Near-Death Experience After Losing His Fight With Jake Paul

In the lead-up to his boxing match with Paul, Tyson faced significant health challenges, including a severe ulcer flare-up that required the fight, originally slated for July 20, to be postponed.

Following the match, the boxing icon took to X to share a shocking revelation.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” he began. “I’m grateful for last night. No regrets about getting in the ring one last time. I almost died in June.”

Tyson added: “Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”

Fans Hail The Boxing Legend For Being An Inspiration After His Jake Paul Fight

In response to Tyson’s heartfelt post, Paul commented: “Love you, Mike. It was an honor. You’re an inspiration to us all.”

Fans also poured in with messages of admiration and respect for the boxing legend. “You’ll always be the greatest boxer of all time to me,” one fan wrote. “I watched you all my life. Nobody even comes close. Thank you for being you. I wish I could have met you in person.”

Another added: “You’re the GOAT Tyson. Hope you see me in other endeavors outside boxing again. Mike Tyson Mysteries comes to mind.”
