Roy Jones Jr and Floyd Mayweather have recently been recently been taking jabs at each other. Initially, Jones Jr told Andre Ward that Sugar Ray Leonard would have beaten ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Mayweather, never to shy away from expressing his feelings, clapped back with a video compilation of Jones Jr’s losses through his instagram story to which Jones Jr has since responded, calling Mayweather out for a fight.

The two legends clearly don’t want to give each other an inch and the beef is heating up. Manny Pacquiao has now shared his take on the situation. The Filipino notably fought Mayweather back in 2015 in what is still the best-selling pay-per-view fight in boxing history (4.6 million buys).

Pacquiao, though, has responded to the situation in his ever-humble manner. ‘Pacman’ pointed out that Ray Leonard and Mayweather are fighters from different eras and he doesn’t like comparison.

I don’t like to compare each other, what we have done. As long as we accomplish something that has inspired the fans, inspired boxing fans all over the world, you’re a contributor of the boxing industry. We can’t compare each other like that. I don’t want my accomplishments in boxing compared with other fighters. I don’t like that.

Pacquiao’s words aren’t surprising, considering he has had the same demeanor throughout his career. He is the only eight-division champion in boxing history and is set to make his return on July 19 against Mario Barrios. Pacquiao could break his own record of being the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history if he beats Barrios.

And ‘Pacman’ was recently asked whether beating Barrios could open the door for a potential Mayweather rematch. Money’ won 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110 when they fought back in 2015. Pacquiao, though, recently claimed that Mayweather is ‘scared to death’ to have a rematch.

As for Floyd Mayweather, he has always been a needle mover. Eight years removed from his professional boxing retirement, he continues making the headlines.

Manny Pacquiao claims Floyd Mayweather will never have a rematch against him.

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao remains the best-selling pay-per-view fight in boxing history. The fight sold 4.6 million PPVs, which is unsurprising, considering Mayweather and Pacquiao were considered the two top pound-for-pound superstars in the sport during that time.

‘Money’ Mayweather won the clash via unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110. Both legends have moved on with their respective careers , with Mayweather now retired and Pacquiao making a comeback at 46 to challenge Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title.

Fans have started speculating whether a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch could be on the cards if Pacquiao beats Barrios. ‘Money’ is now 48, but the fight has the potential to shatter PPV numbers all things considered. However, ‘Pacman’ doesn’t think Mayweather will ever entertain the idea as he believes he’s too scared. He told Covers:

I don’t think Floyd Mayweather will fight me again. He’s scared to death to fight again, that’s what I’m thinking. It’s a huge fight, but there’s a lot of reasons or alibis he didn’t make (the rematch with me). Lots of excuses, I guess.

In terms of accomplishments, both Mayweather and Pacquiao are in their own league. One went 50-0-0 while the other is the only eight-division champion in boxing history. That said, both are closing in on 50 and way past their prime.

Despite that, they are two of the biggest superstars in boxing history and a rematch would inherently generate lots of attention. Mayweather’s final professional bout was in 2017, against Conor McGregor, which he won via 10th round stoppage. The biggest draw in boxing history has since fought Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji, Tensin Nashukawa, and others in exhibition bouts.

As for Pacquiao, he is back in the ring after a four-year hiatus. Pacquiao’s last professional win was back in 2019, against Keith Thurman. ‘Pacman’ is taking on a world champion in Barrios, who is 16 years younger than him, and fans are keen to see how Pacquiao fares at this age.

The July 19 showdown takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Manny Pacquiao’s costly mistake accidentally handed Floyd Mayweather $4 million, years before his comeback

Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Floyd Mayweather was the highest-grossing fight in history, and it even earned Mayweather money years after the fight.

The two all-time greats faced off in one of the biggest fights ever in 2015, as Manny Pacquiao challenged Floyd Mayweather for the unified world welterweight championship.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather generated over $600 million, with “PacMan” earning more than $160 million for his share in the bout.

Mayweather himself earned even more for his share, with his last payday for his clash with Pacquiao coming years later due to talks of a rematch.

Manny Pacquiao handed Floyd Mayweather $4 million for leaking a potential rematch

Two years before his comeback fight with Mario Barrios, Pacquiao revealed that he was in talks with Mayweather for a rematch of their 2015 big-money bout.

In a 2023 interview with The Sun, a then-retired Pacquiao leaked that he was in talks with Mayweather for a massive rematch, eight years after their first and only fight.

However, he clearly made a mistake when doing so, as he broke some sort of agreement the two parties had to not discuss a potential fight before it was announced.

Mayweather revealed that this slip-up from Pacquiao earned him a $4 million payout, in conversation with The Pivot Podcast.

The undefeated former champion said: “When Manny Pacquiao spoke about that [a rematch], he shouldn’t have.

“I’m not gonna say he’s right and I’m not gonna say he’s wrong. Just by him saying my name, they gave me a cheque for $4 million.

“He said my name when he wasn’t supposed to. I said, There’s a time and a place for everything.”

The fee was said to be paid by RIZIN, the Japanese promotion that planned to host the fight in Japan if an agreement was made.

This issue has seemed to put a stop to a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Very little has been said about the fight since Mayweather’s admission, and with Pacquiao back in professional boxing to challenge for world titles, an exhibition fight with his old foe seems out of the question for the time being.

Manny Pacquiao $4 million blunder happened two years before his comeback fight with Mario Barrios

Two years after his wayward mouth cost RIZIN $4 million, Pacquiao is coming back to the ring for his comeback fight at 46 years old.

Pacquiao chose WBC Welterweight champion Barrios as his opponent, as he hopes to become a 13-time world champion.

The win would make Pacquiao one of the oldest world champions in history and cement his legacy even further as an all-time great.

The eight-weight champion is already eyeing up a bout with Conor Benn if he beats Barrios, although Pacquiao’s lightning-fast punches that made him famous are not what they used to be.

This will undoubtedly be his toughest test yet. An exhibition fight with Mayweather would have been the easier choice, but Pacquiao still has the drive and ambition to become a champion in the twilight of his career.

Boxing Legend Says He Would Beat ‘Pitiful’ Floyd Mayweather And Manny Pacquiao: “I’m The Greatest”

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao defined a generation in boxing.

Although their 2015 bout took place past the peak of both, the individual periods of Mayweather and Pacquiao’s prime dominance remain a significant chapter of the sport’s narrative.

Mayweather famously retired undefeated, although one fellow Hall of Fame fighter is supremely confident that would not have been the case if he was around, and he added Pacquiao – who has lost just eight times in 72 contests – into the mix, too.

In his autobiography I Am Duran, Panamanian icon Roberto Duran sets the tone early on.

“When I retired I would gladly have beaten the crap out of all the deadbeats in the sport. The same goes with the boxers today: Pacquiao, Mayweather – they’re pitiful. I could have beaten them all.

“People rate me as the greatest lightweight of all time. And why not? I think I am.”

Known for his aggressive, relentless fighting style and formidable punching power, Duran’s prime saw him dominate the lightweight division, where he held the WBA title for several years and successfully defended it numerous times, often by knockout. His ability to apply constant pressure and deliver punishing blows earned him the moniker ‘Hands of Stone’ and a reputation as a truly fearsome fighter.

A fantasy bout with Mayweather would put the American’s defensive skill to the ultimate test, whereas a fight against Pacquiao – with his whirlwind offence – would be an instant classic.

Duran and Mayweather have closed the book on professional boxing, but Pacquiao believes he still has was it takes at age 46 to return and win a world title. He faces WBC Welterweight World Champion Mario Barrios next month.

‘I pity him’ – Manny Pacquiao reopens fire at Floyd Mayweather over $500 million fortune

Manny Pacquiao has suggested he is not motivated by money unlike his long-term rival Floyd Mayweather.

Pacquiao and Mayweather met in the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015, one of boxing’s biggest ever events which grossed a reported $600 million [£445.8 million] in total revenue.

It saw the pair land the highest purses of their respective boxing careers, but Pacquiao fell to a defeat in a showdown that failed to live up to the billing.

Speculation over a sequel between Mayweather and Pacquiao has risen in recent times, but the former is currently retired from the sport.

And with Pacquiao making a new return to the sport on July 19 against Mario Barrios in an unlikely world title shot, the war of words has begun from the Filipino’s side again.

He insisted he is far different from his opponent, claiming that his fellow American is boastful.

Pacquiao said on the George Janko podcast: “Yeah, he’s boastful.

“I think his God is the material things, money, everything like that. And I pity him. I pity with him for sure.

“Because I want to share the word of God in him, if he believes in God.

“There is a discipline, balance. Control yourself. For example, you are earning money, so what I did is like, I helped the church.

“I give the 10 percent to the church, and 10 percent separate to help the poor people, building houses, giving us sustainable livelihood.”

Despite being respectful of each other in a meeting in Japan in 2022, but a rivalry also seemed to be reignited.

The pair have laid various digs at each other and it is clear there is still animosity, particularly from Pacquiao’s end.

Pacquiao has forever tried to lure Mayweather back into a full professional rematch, but even his legendary dance partner’s time in the exhibition ranks seems over.

Mayweather has generated $1.2 billion in total revenue from his boxing career, and continues to be arguably the richest ever from a squared circle background.

He has made it no stranger to the boxing public that his main motivation was money during his career, a factor that is rarely disputed.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao is now 46 and is far from his prime, but is certain his own intentions for returning aren’t financial.

The Filipino tried his hand at politics, ending his career after defeat to Yordenis Ugas in 2020.

But he is now back, albeit likely set for life financially regardless given his lucrative payday for facing Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya and other leading figures.

And despite the magnitude of the event and purse he pocketed, Pacquiao still blames Mayweather for the in-ring action that unfolded failing to meet expectations.

He added: “Floyd Mayweather is running the whole 12 rounds, and he won the fight. How is that amazing?

“I feel sorry for the fans because the fight was boring. That’s not what the fans are expecting to us, as a fighter.

“As a fan, I want to see an exciting fight. Not a fashion show. Action!”

Boxing icon Claressa Shields wants to see one massive superfight take place.

The summer of 2025 is shaping up to be a memorable one for the boxing world, as many of the sport’s biggest stars are making their return to the ring between now and mid-September, when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will be going toe to toe.

Two of the most compelling fights to come are when 46-year-old Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao faces Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight belt on July 19, and when Gervonta “Tank” Davis rematches Lamont Roach after a controversial majority draw fight earlier this year on August 16.

In addition to the fights themselves being intriguing, the potential implications of Pacquiao and Davis each emerging victorious are fascinating. This is because Pacquiao has asserted that if he looks and feels good against Barrios (and gets a win), he would have an interest in facing off against Davis, so long as Tank beats Roach in their rematch.

It isn’t just male boxers who have a stacked summer schedule. In addition to the highly anticipated trilogy between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano (which will be headlining an all-women’s card at Madison Square Garden on July 11), pound-for-pound great Claressa Shields has a bout slated for July 26, when she’ll face Lani Daniels in a heavyweight title fight at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Claressa isn’t afraid to make her opinion apparent on social media. And on July 10, she openly speculated about a potential superfight between Pacquiao and Tank Davis.

“This is kinda insane, I feel like If Pac man beats Barrios, that’s gonna set up a fight with him and Tank 🤔 could y’all imagine Pacquiao Vs Tank?” Shields wrote in a reply to a video of Pacquiao jogging.

What’s for sure is that Shields isn’t alone in being interested in this potential superfight, especially if Pacquiao emerges victorious against Barrios.

Trainer Robert Garcia has a clear winner in Manny Pacquiao vs Gervonta Davis.

Manny Pacquiao ends his four-year hiatus from the boxing ring as he takes on Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title on July 19 in what will be his first appearance since the 2021 defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

There have been questions regarding Pacquiao’s decision to come back at the age of 46. ‘Pacman’, though, is taking things seriously and is his camp is even eyeing Gervonta Davis as a potential next opponent.

‘Tank’ Davis, meanwhile, is one of the most vicious knockout artists and entertaining fighters in boxing at the moment, boasting a professional record of 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts under his belt. Davis looks set to face Lamont Roach in a rematch next.

Both fighters are big names, and despite Pacquiao fighting two weight classes above ‘Tank’, the talk regarding a potential clash continues on. And now, trainer Robert Garcia has given his honest verdict on the clash.

Speaking to ESNEWS, Garcia said:

Manny is gonna fight ‘Tank’ after that [Barrios]. Catchweight, 43 or 44. I think ‘Tank’ [wins that fight]. This is a big f*cking fight. It’s a huge fight.

Manny Pacquiao, for now, needs to take care of business against Mario Barrios. At 30, Barrios is a lot younger and standing at 183 cm, he holds a 17 cm height advantage over Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is one of the greatest boxers to ever live, and has amassed a stellar record of 62-8-2 with 39 knockout wins. He remains the only boxer to become an eight division world champion. However, he hasn’t won since the 2019 split decision against Keith Thurman and has fought just once in the last four years.

Manny Pacquiao enshrined in boxing’s Hall of Fame just as he resumes his record-setting career

Manny Pacquiao’s fighting days aren’t finished yet, as he’s coming out of retirement at 46 for a shot at another title next month

Manny Pacquiao’s fighting days aren’t finished yet, as he’s coming out of retirement at 46 for a shot at another title next month.

No matter what happens in the remaining stage, it’s hard to find many better resumes than the one he already assembled in a career that landed him in the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Manny Pacquiao took his rightful place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) over the weekend.

But unlike the rest of the class of 2025, his career isn’t over just yet.

The 46-year-old is gearing up to return to the ring for the first time in four years against Mario Barrios in a controversial WBC welterweight title clash on July 19.

Pacquiao looked like a shadow of his former self in his last outing against Yordenis Ugas back in August 2021.

Yet the WBC have chosen to rank ‘Pacman’ at No.5 in their 147lbs ratings while simultaneously sanctioning him to face a champion that is 16 years his junior.

Regardless of what happens in the ring next month, Pacquiao’s legacy is cemented.

And on Sunday, he joined former foes Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in the IBHOF with a ceremony at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York.

Fighting back tears in an emotional induction speech, Pacquiao recounted his remarkable journey from the poverty-stricken streets of the Philippines to the top of the world.

“I came from nothing. Just a small boy from the streets of General Santos City. No shoes. No food. No chance,” he said.

“Just a dream in my heart. I know hunger. I know pain. I know what it means to be counted out.

“But I also know what God can do when you keep the faith and never give up…

“Boxing gave me a way out. It turned my struggles into strength, my failures into lessons. And my pain into purpose…

“It was not just for me but for my family, for the Filipino people, and to all the fans, and for the glory of our God.

“I never chase greatness. I just worked hard to be better than the Manny Pacquiao I was yesterday.

“I never picked the easy fights. I chose the hard ones.

“I moved up weight one after weight, not to protect a record but to test my limits.”

The Filipino boxing legend became the first, and to date only, fighter to win world titles in eight separate weight classes.

Pacquiao started his career at flyweight (106lbs), and picked up belts all the way up to super welterweight (154lbs) over the course of four decades.

Along the way, he beat a who’s who of boxing greats, including De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Erik Morales, while he was rarely in a dull fight.

It is amazing to see how a man in his mid-forties is so passionate about what he calls his career as a boxer. This man is Manny Pacquiao, and he is not stopping. After his comeback, when he was away for almost four years, it was as if he was feeding on something that suddenly gave him the strength to challenge anyone he felt like fighting. His loss in 2021 against Yordenis Ugas might have hit him hard. During his time off, when we thought he had retired, he was planning a whole fight segment to show the world that even past his prime and during his retirement years, he could still make it happen.

He wants to be in that boxing ring

Retirement is a chapter closed for many sports players, and usually, there is an age for it. While some pursue other professional careers in business or in the corporate world, some come back and coach upcoming players. However, it does not look like this concept or equation applies to Manny Pacquiao. When we thought he had other plans, he had other plans, and that was to get back into the ring.

To a certain extent, this is not surprising. He took part in a boxing exhibition in July 2024 against Rukiya Anpo at Super RIZIN; therefore, the attachment was something that was quite evident; hence, there were rumours about his comeback. While we are aware now why he came back, the question remains: why now? Why not a year after his fight with Yordenis Ugas?

Manny Pacquiao: He can’t take his eyes off Gervonta Davis

The first fight has not begun yet, and he is already thinking about his next opponent. We are not even sure if he will win because Barrios is 29 years of age, in his prime, with so much strength and endurance; chances are very low for Manny Pacquiao to win this battle. ‘Pac-Man’ and reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios will challenge each other on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While that is already set and confirmed, Manny seems to be planning and has claimed that he wants to fight and face Gervonta Davis. Has he won this fight with Barrios? No. Is there a chance that he will win? We do not know, although there are some doubts about it. His level of confidence is good and unrealistic too because him targeting men in their prime could just embarrass him and knock him down. He expressed that,

Why is Manny Pacquiao back?

I think he wants to prove a point. That could be, but just because he is “old” does not mean he cannot fight or win or acquire a championship. Additionally, Pac-Man returns to boxing seeking the WBC Welterweight Championship. Because he is one of the greatest boxers, his pride has led him to think he can have it all. He wants to become the oldest welterweight champion of all time.

Manny Pacquiao wants to make history. He wants to leave a legacy; it is something he is hungry for. However, it is concerning because could this be one of those unexpected wins and celebrations in the boxing world, or will it be a farewell tour, or even worse, a smack in the face? What we are sure about right now is that we cannot stop him. He has a fire burning so much that he is not looking at the age of his opponents; rather, he is looking at the skill he has acquired and plans to utilise it in a way that modern boxers might have to stop and rethink their place in the sport.
