Terence Crawford Delivers Verdict On Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Rematch: “He Can’t Be Better”
Terence Crawford has weighed in the proposed Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach rematch.
Davis and Roach look set to do battle again this summer following their controversial first meeting at the Barclays Center in New York back in March.
Heading into the bout it was expected to be a straightforward WBA lightweight title defence for Davis, but it didn’t transpire that way, as the fight ended in a majority decision draw.
Controversy arose in the ninth round, when ‘Tank’ opted to take a knee but no knockdown was scored, which proved to be crucial in the outcome of the fight. Davis would later claim that it was due to grease being in his eye.
With a rematch believed to be pencilled in for August in Las Vegas, Crawford has delivered his view on how the second clash could unfold, as he told Ring Champs With Ak & Barak that he feels Roach will be unable to improve on his first performance.
“I think you’re going to get a better Tank, but at the same time I think Roach fought at his peak. I don’t think he can fight better than that. Roach can definitely have his number, but that doesn’t mean Tank can fight the same fight. He can let his hands go more.
That’s the mental game of it. When he was hitting Roach or Roach was blocking, it was one or two shots. You’ve got to start picking it up and throwing multiple.”
One big name who disagrees with Crawford is Claressa Shields, who believes that Roach will be even better and can win the rematch.
